Verlander traded to Houston, TJ Surgery, Wins 2 WS, Wins 3rd Cy Young Now a Met

from what I heard on the radio today, JV wanted to go to the Cubs or Dodgers but either they didn't want him or the Tigers couldn't get what they wanted out of those two teams. Bottom line is I think the Tigers got the best deal they could have out of JV. This also helps JV. Playing for a contender for the next 2+ years gives him a better chance at the HOF.

Is that what they worry about, JV interest? I know the Cubs didn't have a deal, and Dodgers were never in play. Compared to some others money 2 years, 56m isn't all that much. I actually wouldn't be surprised if they traded JV in the off season. Especially if he's pitching well..

Hooks Dauss has more wins as a Tigers than any other pitcher. But Verlander, Lolich, Morris, Newhouser, and Bridges all rate above McLain IMO.

Well McLain is and always has been an ass.

But two Cy Youngs, an MVP and 30 win season.

Nobody has done that shit since nor before going back to Cy Young himself.

That is some monster shit right there.

well, the Tigers did have to choose a team that would help JV or he could just veto the trade. If he pitches well there is no way Houston trades him...they have a good team that will be in contention for the next 2+ years

If he had been traded to the Dodgers I would've been able to see Kate's boobies from my bedroom window.

Different game. SP don't throw that much anymore. In 2017, McClain at his best would never accomplish that now. Like Charles Radbournwho had a 59 win season, and a 48 win season. Different time.

The high-flying Astros have played sub-.500 baseball, ever since the ASB, so I can understand their almost desperate need for an ace veteran SP. They still have a double-digit cushion in the ALWD, but that could be erased in the stretch-run, ala the '11 AL Red Sox and NL Braves, or having HFA throughout the AL playoffs. As we all know, the postseason is a different animal altogether, and JV is playoff-seasoned, with final game/series chutzpa.

Webvideo of Verlander.

Thank you to Detroit for an incredible 13-seasons, a city that will always be important to me. But now I couldn?t be more excited to join the Astros and am looking forward to getting started right away. I am committed to making an impact off the field, especially during such difficult times. My Foundation, Wins for Warriors, will continue to do the great work we have started in Detroit, but will also expand to Houston effective immediately and get involved with aiding the #HurricaneHarvey disaster relief efforts.

Justin Verlander is gone, and so are the days of the Tigers being fun.
Justin Verlander is on the Astros now, and that means it’s time to eulogize the Tigers we used to know.

Just as many will not forget what they were doing, for example, when they first learned about the planes hitting the Twin Towers on 9/11, or when JFK was shot, I won't @ age 11.10 when McLain won his 30th game, was attending our parish/grade school's annual weekend Fall Festival, when it was announced over the PA.

I was at the post office very early in my career. Got home in time to see the end of the game. iirc it was a Saturday, and Dizzy Dean the last 30 game winner was there.
Soon after Sports Illustrated came out with the new weekly and Denny and Al were on the cover.

I still have it in my Kaline collection.

Of course. But where do you think the seed money came from? And when the businesses need a boost, where does that come from? We are closing on 3 buildings right now. "We" are buying the buildings, not the LLC. The LLC will be renting and then sub-leasing.

Awesome.

I have been a Detroit Tiger fan my entire life. I will stick with them through thick and thin. There are some pretty lean times as of late. Short of getting a old English D tattooed on my left breast the one closest to my heart I will always be a fan. I just have one last request. When I die I request that the starting line up be my pallbearers. With the first baseman on my right side followed by second, then short stop. Then third. Then on the other side the catcher, left, center, and right field. Then have the pitcher at my feet. Then the team I love so much can let me down one more time. Then I can rest in peace.

That seems somewhat/how familiar...and had the Tigers advanced to the WS in every year in which they clinched a postseason berth, it would have been vs the Cards or Giants.

Have never been a business owner, nor taken courses in college, but why fund with your own $, and not through banks, ventures, or SBA?

Dominos has a new teevee commercial showing franchise owners tearing down their stores, to build brand new, and one young (actress) lady..has a line where she claims to have bought her pizzeria with her "college savings"..lol..what did she do...escort/call girl?

Without going to deep into the weeds. If the LLC needs to file bankruptcy and isn't the owner of the real property, it cannot be sought after by the creditors.

Within Illitch Holdings, are the Tigers, Redwings, Casino, etc, etc...each are independent and would/should be treated separate during a bankruptcy. As soon as they "co-mingle" money (i.e. transfer monies from Casino to the Tigers), they some what void that protection. Now if the casino is making me $60 Mil a year, and the Tigers are losing me $60 Mil a year, I can overlook that in a short period. But I am not making up that shortfall by transferring monies.

The team is in a trust set up by Ilitch's estate, and his son Christopher Ilitch is the trustee in charge of decision making for the team. He's been the day-to-day head of the family's multibillion-dollar business empire since 2004. The club has signaled that its strategy moving forward is to develop talent rather than to acquire it via blockbuster trades and free-agent signings.
