The Astros have the best record in the AL and lead the AL West by 17 games. Their offense is first in the majors in runs (599), hits (1,031), home runs (165) and doubles (225).
Houston has three players in the top 10 in batting average in the AL as of Thursday. Jose Altuve leads the league at .365, while Carlos Correa, although recently injured, is fourth at .320. George Springer is ninth (.310).

Zimmermann lasted just 3 2/3 innings in his last start, allowing five runs on nine hits against the Twins.
Zimmermann is 2-3 with a 2.95 ERA in six starts against the Astros. He allowed four runs (two earned) in six innings against them this season.

Keuchel has allowed two runs or fewer in 10 of 11 starts this season, but hasn?t pitched since June 2 because of a neck injury.
Keuchel is 3-2 with a 4.30 ERA in six games (five starts) against the Tigers.

Notable Tigers against Keuchel: Ian Kinsler .286 (8 for 28, 1 HR), Miguel Cabrera .267 (4 for 15, 1 HR), Victor Martinez .400 (6 for 15, 1 HR).

Jose Iglesias, who has been the subject of trade rumors, is not in the lineup.
Dixon Machado is starting at shortstop for the Detroit Tigers in their series opener Friday night against the Houston Astros.
Tigers manager Brad Ausmus said he wanted to get Machado at least one start this weekend, and tonight's matchup made the most sense.
Iglesias said he was healthy and was surprised not to be in the lineup. But he had not spoken directly with general manager Al Avila and had not been traded. At least not yet.
Andrew Romine will start in right field instead of Alex Presley with left-handed Dallas Keuchel on the mound for the Astros.

Things to know about this game
The Astros are hoping to get infielder Alex Bregman (right hamstring strain), outfielder George Springer (left quad strain) and relief pitcher Will Harris (right shoulder inflammation) back for this weekend's series.
Keuchel has thrown 23.9 percent of his pitches to the bottom edge of Statcast's detailed strike zone this season, ranking first among pitchers with at least 1,000 pitches. Of those pitches, 84.3 percent have been strikes, and batters have hit .181 against them.

Tigers outfielder Mikie Mahtook extended his career-best hitting streak to 11 games on Wednesday night, matching Nicholas Castellanos for the longest streak by a Tigers player this season.

1st pitch to Kinsler is half a foot outside and home plate ump calls it a strike.

and of course it's the worst ump in the ML's CB Bucknor. how the fk does this guy have an umpiring job?

How many runs does Zimmermann give up tonight?

Gameday.

Kinsler lines to center,

Nick singles through 3 infielders on the left side,

J_Up lines a double down 1st to the rf corner, and Nick slows down and then has to stop at 3rd,

Miggy chasing low 1 and 2, again ground foul, takes low, called out on strikes knee high,

Mahtook 2 and 0, draws a walk,

time for a grand slam,
Victor taking 1 and 1, fouls off a slider, low, reaches and ground foul past first, swings through a slider,

Well that was pretty much the season in a nutshell. Both Miggy and VMart have a chance to drive in runs, and both strike out.

Shame they both have fallen so far from what they used to be.

I could be the umpire calling strikes on every pitch and Zimmermann would still give up six runs.

Good to see Nick get a couple hits. He's been struggling the last week or so after a very good couple months.

Zimmermann with 52 pitches after top of 4th inning,

Tigers lead 3 - 2,
