The Tigers haven?t won a season series against the Yankees since 2011, when they won four of seven.
All-Time NY leads 1044-922.

The Yankees lead the AL East by a half game over the Red Sox. Rookie outfielder Aaron Judge leads the AL in home runs (33) and is third in RBIs (74).

Fulmer has lost his last two starts after winning his previous four. He has given up 11 runs (eight earned) on 15 hits in 10 2/3 innings in those two losses.
Fulmer allowed zero runs on two hits in six innings in his only career start against the Yankees.

As of Sunday, Severino is fourth in the AL in ERA. He has faced the Tigers once in his career, giving up three runs on 10 hits in five innings.
Severino has allowed just one run over his past three starts, spanning 21 innings. He has allowed 15 hits while striking out 21 during that stretch.

Detroit's hottest hitter.
Catcher James McCann is hitting .464 (13 for 28) with a home run, three doubles and four RBIs during his last eight games.

Detroit's coldest hitter.
First baseman Miguel Cabrera is batting .213 (10 for 47) with two extra-base hits and five RBIs over his past 12 games.

Three Things to know about this game
Fulmer allowed two hits in six scoreless innings last year against New York. The only current Yankee with more than two at-bats against him is Todd Frazier, who is 3-for-14 (.214) with a double and five strikeouts.

Fulmer is known for bringing the firepower, particularly with a four-seam fastball that averages 95 mph according to Statcast. But the Yankees do fairly well against heat, with a .249 batting average on pitches thrown 95 mph or harder (eighth best in MLB).

Mikie Mahtook has been perhaps Detroit's best hitter over the past two months, hitting well over .300 with a slugging percentage over .500 since June began. However, he's yet to solve Severino, who has kept him hitless in seven at-bats with four strikeouts.

Tigers by the numbers.
Overall: 47-56
Current streak: W2
At Comerica Park: 27-25
On the road: 20-31
Day games: 22-15
Night games: 25-41
vs. AL East: 10-10
vs. AL Central: 24-22
vs. AL West: 8-18
vs. NL: 4-6

After Sunday's win, the Tigers' final projected record by FiveThirtyEight is 76-86. The site gives Detroit a 4 percent chance of making the playoffs and a less than 1 percent chance of winning the division.

One of the big problems is lead off Tigers hitters runs 71 middle of the pack at 8th place; .319 obp bad enough for 10th place.
Second big problem is the 2 spot is 60 runs bad enough 10th place, .325 obp, for 6th place.
This has to get better for run support to get better!
In 2016
Tigers lead off hitter finished 2nd in runs 124 scored and 4th in obp .345.
2 spot finished 6th with 99 runs. but 12 with a .319 obp.

223 runs in 2016, 1.38 per game vs 131 now, that's 1.27 per game. In the next 59 games they would need 92 runs will be needed, that's 1.59 per game.

Vmart should have taken a strike in that AB would have been a bases loaded walk if he had

3rd base ump is Jerry Layne, the one who threw Adrian Beltre out of the game for moving the on deck circle a few days ago.
He looks like he has a load in his pants.

Even with the down year with the top of the order, this is still a top 5 offense. Pitching has been by far the biggest problem on this team. Led by the worst bullpen on the planet.

they're 7th place in the AL with the .277 ave. 6th with an .844 OPS

You don't have that sorted by average.

Fulmer getting into a bit of trouble here. Bases loaded, no outs. Loaded up without a hit.

after strike one it's ok to swing the bat at close ones you can hit. O the ouch hit the ouch hit.
