AKA the Iron Sheik departs at age 81. I wasn't allowed to watch pro wrestling as a kid but I was aware of all the big name characters from the 80s. I definitely remember this guy.

I haven't watched this form of entertainment since the mid 80's. As a kid Saturday afternoons in the 50's and early 60's I would watch Killer Kowalski my favorite bad guy wrestler who was from Hamtramck and who I met through a friend in the mid 70's, and George 'The Animal' Steele with the green tongue who was a high school teacher in some city in Michigan.

Loved the bad guys and the tag teams. The Iron Sheik and Nikolai Volkoff were two who tagteamed for a number of years. I got a kick out of Iron Sheik's boots with the curled toes he would slam the opponents head into.

The past few years Iron Sheik was on Twitter calling out different people as "Jabronis".

This Iron Sheik was the second one wrestler with the name. The first was back in the 60's and 70's in the midwest and Chicago area. He would throw fire into the opponent's face.

All these wrestlers/entertainers are going. A week or two ago, Super Star Billy Graham died.

I remember the original Sheik or the first Shiek used to throw salt around the ring. And try to pray to Allah. Many of his opponents tried to prevent him from doing so. He was also famous for the foreign objects that he would stick in his waistband.

Didn't he have a big rivalry with Sgt Slaughter? I could only watch when my parents weren't paying attention so my exposure to WWF is very limited. I remember George the Animal Steele - he's the guy that ate the turnbuckle pads. My favorite was Koko B Ware showboating w/ the parrot.

He had a big feud with Sgt. Slaughter and a few other good guy wrestlers.

Steele had a thing for Randy Macho Man Savage's girlfriend Miss Elizabeth.

George Steele vs Pete Sanchez (WWE 1983). tears open and eats the turnbuckle.
