The Tigers have way too many needs and they aren't going to spend what may be $43-$50 mill/year on 1 player who will pitch every 5th day.
That money is much better spent on acquiring a number of players and filling lots of holes.

MONDAY MUSINGS.
Totally Tigers

Throughout the week, there are so many smaller stories hitting the media. They may be bite-size, but often they are just as important as the headline-grabbing news. Sometimes, even more.

And that?s what brings me to today. A way to bring them out in the open and invite conversation about some of these subjects.

And that?s the plan for Mondays. Keeping track of these mighty little bits that hit my radar throughout the week and sharing them with you today because
I know one or more will also resonate with you. So, let?s kick off this week?s musings?.

Justin Verlander has now won 5 BBWAA Awards: 3 CYA, MVP, ROY

Only 4 players have won more than 4 career BBWAA Awards:

Roger Clemens: 8
Barry Bonds: 7
Randy Johnson: 5
Justin Verlander: 5

Nice.

A lot of talk that Verlander could be coming to the Dodgers.

Which, if he don?t go back to the Tigers - which he won?t - would be my choice.

I hope zyxt ain?t lurking, laying some curse on me to die.

Wrote about this in August: Justin Verlander, who just banked his 3rd Cy Young, is an outlier in terms of post-Tommy John surgery performance among pitchers age 36 and over. 6.1 fWAR vs a net total of 3.8 for the other 12 pitchers who made it back.

Justin Verlander has finished in the top 3 of the Cy Young Award voting *seven* times, which is equally impressive to have won his third Cy Young Award.

Most top-3 finishes, all time, per Keith Costas:
Randy Johnson, 10; Roger Clemens, 9; Greg Maddux and Verlander, 7.

Justin Verlander just sold his house in LA and bought a new one in FL.
If he was interested in the Dodgers, don't you think he would have postponed putting his house on the market just in case?

So now JV is heading to Mets.

And just when you were running out of reasons to really hate the City of New York.

Fuck them and their goddamn Christmas tree and their ice-skating rink.

And fuck Derek Jeter.

damn. Next year the Mets are going to pay $86M in salary for 2 starters. At the end of 2022 there were 15 teams that had active payrolls under $87M

And they still won't win the WS. With all the layers of playoffs in place, it's exponentially more difficult to do so.

I don?t know - somebody always seems to manage to win it somehow.
