Colbert did most of yesterday night's episode in retro-70's feel, and had Pat Buchanan, and John Dean on to interview them on books they wrote about it.

Buchanan stated on the air that Nixon should've quickly destroyed the tapes before getting subpoenaed (which probably would've been obstruction of justice regardless of whether he had). moron.

Reading about the fall-out from the scandal and some of the actions from this, you can probably cite 1972 as the last time the Republican party was not overwhelmingly corrupt and actually bore some resemblance to the mythical guardians of the rule of law and all that is decent that they claimed to be. Maybe some of you older guys who were cool back in the 70's would remember more about it.

So both parties have been overwhelmingly corrupt since 1972 or are you saying 1972 is when the Republicans started down the path to overwhelming corruption and it took them awhile to catch up to the Democrats?

I HATE Pat Buchanan. Can't stand him. I watched the first 10 seconds and skipped the interview.

Colbert was way too polite to him, but I got the sense that's because he knows Buchanan is too crotchety and probably also too dumb to handle any ribbing without throwing his mic or storming off the set like a child

I'm glad Colbert took a minute to mock the naming of "C.R.E.E.P." He wondered how that got by Nixon's "committee against incriminating acronyms" or something like that, but worded it so it spelled out "N.U.T.S.A.C." and had those letters at the bottom of a smiling picture of Nixon for a period of time. I pretty much lost it at that point.
