China uses about as much coal as the rest of the world combined. That can't be the end of the story. It wasn't that long ago that the US was the biggest coal user, was it? If the US still uses, say...75% of the coal China uses, that would mean the US + China are using over 80% of the coal getting used.

It's the Big 2, Little 194. That's hard to believe. Is there that much nuclear power in Europe, or what are they using?

Guessing Europe uses nuclear, hydro-electric, oil, and natural gas more than China does, as oil & natural gas are more expensive than coal, but marginally cleaner, if SimCity was accurate.

Europe also has about 600 million fewer people than China (1.3 Billion to 0.71 billion) so... factor that in

air conditions in China are by many accounts, absolutely horrible. so at least locally, we may see them hit the "carrying capacity" of their environment sooner than later.

other industrial countries went through this at some point: see here or here.

I was thinking of them as being comparable to the US. Turns out, Europe uses about as much as the US, but both are small compared to China.

here's Europe
