good move for him, crowded frontcourt in ATL, traded for a future first rounder

Maybe just the homer in me, but he would have been a great fit in Detroit. An athletic 4 to stretch the floor and open up space in the middle for Drummond and Monroe.

Thought he would be a really good role player in the D, and insurance in case Monroe did leave.

I agree with you. His skillset coming out of college was a perfect fit for the SVG system. Granted, he just hasn't really done anything in the NBA or D-League yet. But that's why the return was so protracted (pick is lottery protected through 2020, turns into 2 second rounders in 2020). Here's hoping he can get time and actually become something with Minny. If he can ever get his outside shooting back in order, he should be fine.

Payne started last night and had a double double w 11 and 10.

Gary Harris started as well, 10pts, nuggets got killed by Brooklyn.

Payne did start, but he's struggling mightily to find the bottom of the net. In the two games he's played for Minny so far, he's shot 0-5 and 4-15. He's hit just one three and only half of his free throws. Minny isn't the best team for spacing, but the struggles inside and at the line seem to indicate a real problem. Free throws especially are concerning since he was an above 80% shooter over his last two years at MSU. The free throw line doesn't change in the NBA.
