not all of MMs trades can turn into gold. Was he good...not by any means. Was he better than what we have....maybe. He made some plays on the ball thats for sure. Most of the times he was toasted or made a fool of it seemed like it was someone else doing something before it that made him look dumb. aka....levy whiffing at the 5 so phons gets trucked into the endzone. several times he was toasted deep spievey bit on a run fake. Not saying Phons was never at fault....he did his fair share of biting on plays when he was on an island. IMO, phons would have been best in the slot and instead they used him outside. Hes never been fast....it was the knock on him ever since draft day....so why in the world would you trade for him then play him outside on an island? I just dont think he was ever given the chance here to do what he does best. Being a ballhawk on the inside. We probably dont need him for that anymore so we move on and cut him.....but i cant fault him for not being successful here.

And traded for Kevin Barnes. Two of the rookies are hurt and Green gets toasted and Smith still gets cut. When Justin Miller was in for Houston against Oakland and started the Bills game it was obvious

Houston,Bentley,Lacey,Barnes, Justin Miller. Roll with that or scrounge the waiver wire for a 6th CB with special teams value if you don't like Jonte Green. If you think Lacey or Barnes can play outside if Bentley is still hurt pick up Joselio Hansen who may be cut.

I remember having a really really long debate on this board about Smith vs Berry during the offseason. Most people argued Smith would start over Berry. Obviously, they're both gone, but if Berry didn't act like a clown off the field there was no way in hell he was getting cut. Smith has been overrated by fans (and the coaching staff a little) since he got here. Young guys can't be much worse
