There's an article with a collection of writers retelling terrible seasons they had to cover. 8 writers going back as far as 1994. Chengelis wrote about 2014 Michigan. Here's the paragraph that hit me.

After Brandon?s departure, Hoke, who would hold pressers on Monday and a short update on Wednesday, seemed to be a little more at ease when talking to us. In fact, they seemed to be some of his best pressers. I walked with him toward the podium on Wednesday and I told him just that, that he seemed more relaxed and the pressers were more information. He looked at me and said, ?Maybe I just don?t care anymore.? That comment took me by surprise. But maybe he knew what was coming. Maybe, somehow, he knew in April.

3 minutes after I posted this here, "SAMgO" posted this to MGoBlog, copy/pasting the same paragraph. Probably a coincidence.

They do point out over there that he may have been talking about not caring how the press and public sees him or how he deals with them after the way he was hung out there by Dave Brandon in the Morris concussion situation. It seems like something he'd never say about his players and team.

Also a good point about Chengelis not publishing that quote back when it would have made things worse.

I will still believe that the deal with Harbaugh was basically a done deal long before it was official. I also think its possible Hoke knew this as well because his close relationship to the Harbaugh family.
