The Knicks traded Nerlens Noel, Alec Burks, Detroit's own 2023 second-round pick, a 2024 second round pick from the Miami Heat and $6 million in cash to the Pistons, league sources confirmed to the Free Press on Tuesday night.

Get StartedLooks like focus is firmly shifted away from Bridges/Ayton and towards the next offseason.
Not sure how Burks and Noel fit in playing time wise but it doesn't matter a whole lot when you're trying to develop your young core.
Some people are going to absolutely hate this, as it means another year of not competing.
This all seems like good value. Two second rounders for 19 million in cap space might be a little low (I'd have hoped for one of those future protected first NY had now), but getting that 6 million back (which doesn't affect the cap) is probably why. Burks could have an actual role here off the bench as a shooter. Noel may as well get bought out. Though he's a solid defender, he can't really play the 4, and all our C minutes should be accounted for already.
Best of all, no long term money was taken on. Both guys have team options next year, so even if they look awesome, we could keep them pretty cheap. AND, we've still got plenty of space left over. We could still get a solid player, or continue to take on salary for more assets.
Maybe the Knicks already have a handshake deal with Noels for a $6M buyout?
It looks like the Pistons are just going to let these young players figure it out on the fly. I'm not too thrilled about just two second round picks...one that is top 55 protected. Those 2nd rounders are mostly lottery tickets...most of the time they are useless and once in a while you get something in return. Very unlikely anything of value. Burks may add something to the team. Noels is a turd.
Time will tell. One more year picking in the top 10. Next year's first is top 18 protected, so this should guarantee they will keep their first round pick next year.
I don't think they have enough cap space for that plus Brunson. And once they sign Brunson, they'll be close enough to the cap to use the Mid-Level Exception. That's worth about 10M, and could probably land a better player anyway.
You wanted a wing that could shoot the 3 we just got one. A couple 2nd and some veteran presence for little cap space. You can't go with a team full of just 25 years or younger.
19M is a little cap space?
They did get a wing that can shoot, but he's a bench guy. Noels is a turd.
It took them out of potentially signing Miles Bridges, who might be on the cusp of being an all star.
That said...I still don't hate it. Next off season they should probably have even more cap space than they had this year. The guys they added are on expiring contracts and another $9M comes off from DeAndre Jordan and Zhaire Smith.
What makes you think he'd come here? Because he can't wait to come to a rebuild?

The Pistons will be incredibly young....but the talent level just went from bottom 5 to somewhere in the middle of the pack. Lets say 16th. They could very well contend for a playoff spot in a weak Eastern Conference.
I do not think they will pick inside the top 10 next year.......but it's a lottery and anything could happen.
well, they had the 3rd worst record in the NBA last year. They did lose their best player (statistically) in Grant, but we will call him their 2nd best due to Cade being the best at the end of the season.
While I agree that they have improved their talent due to the two rookies that were added, I would be shocked if they have a record that wasn't bottom 10 next year.
Could be. But if Ivey is as good as they say and Duren adds some athleticism and defense.....this team could really play a fun style of ball.
Also, Bey should see a lot more open looks this year. If he starts knocking down shots this offense could be really good, and the defense should be slightly improved from last year.
Detroit still needs a shooter. I like Burks, but he is on the wrong side of 30.....and hit less than 40% of his 2 pointers last year.
