I dont know about any of you but I have to be honest I didnt really expect much out of this basketball team this year and I think the reason was losing Walton I just didnt think Simpson would be able to step up and fill in for all that Walton did. And not only has he done that he may actually be better than Walton. Thats why my team MVP is Zavier Simpson. He does it all and really doesnt get near the credit I think he should.

The great thing about this TEAM is though there isnt a real MVP. The team leader can be anyone on a given night. The MVP for the B10 tourney was Moe and then for the West region it was Mathews. And if we win the next 2 games they could give the MOP of the tourney to anyone on the team. How many teams could have 3 different players win an MVP. You really dont need an one an done player when you have a complete team.

Rahk Star. I feel like he's the constant, steadying presence a team like this needs.

He's also my favorite so I'm incredibly biased.

Same here. Might be my favorite Michigan Bballer ever. I remember watching recruit videos of him showing how inconsistent and terrible his shot was. They said he'd be an effort guy that comes off the bench and scores by getting to the basket. He's worked so damn hard that now he's solid in every facet of the game and our most consistent shooter.

I would have to agree though, Simpson's rise coincided with our streak and, strangely enough, Walton came along at around the same time last year, too. If not for the little guy, I don't think we repeat in the btt and i dont think we get past Houston. For that reason, hed get the award from me.

It's pretty awesome Walton and X are the exact opposite. Offensive explosion and defensive explosion. We still get it done.

I dont know the others averages, but Matthews has averaged 13 points and 6 rebounds throughout both tourneys combined. I said months ago that he was going to be needed if we had a chance in this tournament. He started out the year hot and fizzled through a long schedule. He made it back and I'm just as impressed with his progression as Simpson's. Both guys have willed us through these tourneys with tmely steals, timely dunks and fade aways, and timely defensive stops. Mo and Raak haven't always had to be the best players. They rarely have been and it's a testament to the teamwork of this group. Awesome team, win or lose this weekend.

For the season MAAR would be my pick. Also, his unselfish play got the ball to Poole who made the shot to beat Houston. As a senior he could have taken the shot and probably no one would have blamed him for not passing to a freshman that was pretty well covered. He gave up the rock to someone that he thought had a better shot. That kind of player rarely gets the recognition he deserves.

Simpson will get his chance at MVP. His poor free throw shooting bothers me. Maybe next year.
