After the restructures it was reported right around 5-6 million. CJ's deal supposedly saved 9 million. So I'd guess in the 14-16 million range.

we can get another $5/6 if Avril's deal is worked out....so $20/21 Mill to sign Rookies, Backus, Tulloch/other, #2QB and probably 8 other players filling out the team. barring of course we cut someone like CW

well, i was trying to be realistic. i think it's obvious that they want Avril back and will try to wrap him up for a few years. I'd love the scenario with Mario Williams though.

On Tuesday, MLive.com reporter Phil Zaroo projected the Lions could be as much as $9 million under the cap. Johnson's restructured deal would double that figure.

The Lions, who were essentially handcuffed at the start of free agency, now have the necessary funds to address some of their other offseason needs. At the top of the list should be the re-signing of middle linebacker Stephen Tulloch to a long-term deal. Based on similar signings, Tulloch figures to command an annual salary between $5-7 million.

Detroit also hopes to re-sign offensive tackle Jeff Backus. In addition, the team has been aggressively lining up visits with other free agent offensive linemen, including Marcus McNeil, Geoff Schwartz and Eric Winston.
