Bears Safety. He got torched by Calvin on his big play vs the Bears on Monday night. He has been a good safety over the course of his career (second team all pro last year). If you want to talk about someone who can really help the team (not T.O.) this is the guy. Bring him in before the bye.

Coleman on IR, veteran safety. We need as many Dbs as we can get. Watch film on Spievey.

I imagine Schwartz watches it everyday....Spievey starts every Sunday.

you know more then the HC ?

May be best option available, doesn't mean he's getting the job done or even that the coaches approve of his play. I guess you have some inside line on what the HC is thinking. Bottom line Spievey has been brutal, the past two games in particular.

inside info..nope....just cant really bash a 2nd year Safety who made the move from CB and sits in behind 2 average CBs.

I have no problem with his coverage abilty back there...I will agree his tackling needs improvement..but like I said 2nd year guy who made the move from CB , thats a 3 or 4 year transition.

I hope he can turn it around. his run support is bad. On those wham plays against the 9ers Spievey wiffed in hole where even an ankle grab would have slowed Gore down. In coverage he sits too deep and can't read the wr route with any speed. That huge play to Harry Douglas was his fault for sure, will have to look at the Roddy White catch but if i'm not mistaken that was a blown coverage by him too. His int on Ryan was because he was a good 5 yards behind Gonzales. We could use some veteran leadership back there.

funny Schwartz said Houston gave up the inside to easy on the Douglass catch and Spievey was the only Safety deep.

I first thought they were in 2 deep coverage on that play until Schwartz talked about it and then when you look at the replay Delmas is up on the line in coverage and Spievey is the only Safety deep.

Douglass catch wasn't on him.

Yeah I saw it on NFL replay last night and I thought that was one of a few brutal plays by Spievey, I saw it the same way you did at first, but if it was on Houston, my bad. The secondary as a whole has held up much better than last year (outside of the run support of which Eric Wright has been the only one to truly show up, including Delmas). Would like to limit the big play a little more and that tends to fall on the safetys.

he didn't throw Houston under the bus...he just said they got caught in a coverage that Ryan could only exploit to the inside , and he did and Houston gave him the inside to easy.

now with Spievery being the only Safety deep...does he take a chance and jump the route and if he misses its 6 because when yu watch the replay Douglass is gone if Spievey doesn't make the tackle.

who knows...I argued with MHughes about this play Sunday night.

Fairley hasn't been lights out do we go get a DT? Just because you don't think he's done his job -- he's the Guy.

Apples to Oranges...fact is we did go out and get a safety, he ended up on IR and we brought in another guy and he got hurt.

But your initial point was you want to replace spievey with someone else. He's the starter whether you like it or not. Just like Backus and Raiola.

I said he could help the team and that he is a vet all pro level safety. Would make other guys better, could start if needed and we play the bears after the bye. Figured with all the TO talk we could at least talk about a guy who made some sense. Will it/ would it ever happen, your guess is as good as mine.

all pro level?..

Chris Harris is nothing more then an 8th man in the box Safety now...he runs a 4.8 and has been abused deep all year.

I think what people need to understand is that you can't have All Pro players at every position. This isn't 1992.

Spievey - considering he had NEVER PLAYED safety in his life going into training camp last season, looks pretty damn good.

Hell... He looks a shit load better than Gerald Alexander or any of those Millen safety draft picks - and those guys had played the position their whole life.

Anybody miss CC Brown? I don't... just saying.
