HOUSTON -- The Texans fear outside linebacker Jadeveon Clowney suffered a meniscus tear Sunday against the Washington Redskins that could require arthroscopic surgery, a source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

Sources told ESPN's Ed Werder that Clowney suffered an MCL injury. He'll undergo further testing on Monday.

Clowney left the game late in the second quarter with a knee injury after landing awkwardly on the ground and did not return in the second half. Clowney looked visibly upset as he walked into the Texans' locker room with a trainer.

Coach Bill O'Brien didn't provide much more information on Clowney's health after the game.

"We're consulting with doctors and trainers right now," O'Brien said. "I'm not sure about the status, but I will say right now that they think it's a good prognosis, so it looks like he's going to be OK. He may miss some time, he may not. Who knows? We'll know better as the week goes on."

Before he left the game, Clowney had one tackle for a loss of nine yards on a reverse to wide receiver DeSean Jackson.

The draft's first overall pick dealt with two separate injuries prior to the season. He had a sports hernia surgically repaired in June and returned early in training camp after his recovery. Clowney also missed two weeks after sustaining a concussion from a helmet-to-helmet hit during a practice against the Denver Broncos. He sustained that injury on Aug. 20.

The Texans won, 17-6
