Concern about Tennessee?

More coach speak if you follow so e of the sports guys I twitter

JB. Talked about the experience from last year good as the returning. Guys can help freshman with the overall wow factor. (Remember these are 18 and 19 year olds playing I sweet 16 for first time)

@detnewsRodBeard: Beilein on @michiganinsider: Most players in rotation have experience it last year, avoiding some of the distractions.

Tenn uses juniors and seniors primarily

@BFQuinn: Beilein w/ @ShepMatt: The 3-point shot and shot clock can neutralize size advantage/disadvantage

Well, i've said that a few times. You don't score points by rebounding. No one rebounds a made shot. Rebounds are nice, but they're not everything.

Rebounds do score points albeit not directly. Offensive boards lead to second chance points, and defensive rebounds stop the opponent from doing the same. They're not everything, but they're very important. Even on a team's best shooting night, they're still going to miss about half of their field goal attempts.

I don't think he was saying rebounds are completely worthless, or you shouldn't try to rebound. I dunno, maybe.

I know he wasn't saying they are worthless, but it came across as downplaying them. I personally think rebounding is one of the most important, if not the most important part of a winning basketball team. Why do we always say that if Michigan is not hitting their outside shots they will be in trouble? It's because they are not a great rebounding team.

You can win a number of ways, shooting well, playing good defense. You benefit from getting more shots than your opponent, some teams do this with rebounding, some with the press, some turn it over less.

i just don't get why experts are all on Tennessee. Makes no sense to me. Many of them picked Texas to knock us out and now Tennessee. We get absolutely no respect. Aren't we a 2 seed?

Tennessee beat a shitty Iowa team that was playing worse than just about anyone in the tourny. They followed that with a win over a hugely overseeded UMass team and got lucky to end up with Mercer. If we don't beat this team by 10+, I'll be shocked.

I watched a breakdown on CBS Sports of the game, they talked for 2 minutes about Tennessee, and did not say a single word about Michigan. Michigan feels like an overwhelming underdog if you were to judge the positive PR for Tenn.

Some LA radio guy called TENN the "hottest team in the country"

Really? Since Wichita State lost to KY?

I think it's a bit ridiculous that some of the media are saying Tennessee is such a dangerous team right now, since they've beaten a fading Iowa team, a bad UMass team, and a mediocre Mercer to get to this point.

That being said, we likely won't blow them out. One of the things that worries me the most is how we're planning on guarding Jarnell Stokes. He's a very tough matchup for GR3 and has better post moves than Jonathon Holmes from Texas did.

Also, Tennessee is very good at defending the 3 point line. In Cuonzo Martin's 3 years as head coach, Tennessee's worst ranking at defending the 3 is 33rd in the nation. This obviously is strength against strength when they play us.

Levert will likely match up with McRae. That should be a good matchup as McRae is their top scorer and a very solid 2-way player.
Josh Richardson will match up with Stauskas. Richardson is a very good defender, so it'll be interesting to see how Stauskas does against him.

Mgoblog has a good scouting report if you want to read more. http://mgoblog.com/

Happened all last year, too

Team that will get beat first round, lose to vcu, can't hang with Kansas, etc

Michigan gets no respect, I mean, Hell, they were lucky to win the big 10 by 3 games...

Came up last night at the radio show
No mender stands the lack if attention/love

All part of the "chip on shoulder" in a way

I dont think Beilein gets the credit for what he has done. Some love him but for the most part his success seems to not be noticed. I think in part its because he has moved around so much.

Folks I give him credit for bing too X's and O's guy
Don't give him credit for aking lower ranked kids, riming a team and succeeding with them

I'm concerned about Tennessee's length ....not height, because nobody blocks shots with their head.

Well, since Manute Bol anyways. Dude had sick length ...just no basketball skills

Call it arrogant homerism if you want but the only thing that concerns me is Michigan themselves. If Michigan is making shots, they won't lose to anyone in this tournament. Nobody.

The unfortunate reality is our defense is pretty shitty and the odds of Michigan having four more straight games of lights out shooting is pretty slim.

It's kind of crazy so many analysts continue to not believe in UoM, they were saying the same crap last year about them being too perimeter oriented and don't rebound enough and STILL nearly won it all despite terrible officiating going against them.

If any team is set to be exposed it's going to be MSU who has gotten fluke games out of Payne and Dawson in the tournament.

That's the reason why I'm slightly worried about Tennessee. Tennessee has great guard length to disrupt Stauskas, Levert, and others when they attempt 3s. But if we're able to get 3s in transition, then that worry disappears.

Or, what if the Vols shoot like crap or get into foul trouble?!

Love all the pundits who use stupid cliches like, "live by the three, die by the three" and "defense wins championships."

Any shot that doesn't go in is bad and any bad shooting team (night) makes opposing defenses look good.

Tennessee is getting a lot of love because they have been pretty dominate the past couple of weeks. They are 7-1 in their last 8 with the only loss being a close game vs Florida in the SEC title game. Their 7 wins were complete blow outs too, 6 of them by 20+ pts.
