Concern about Tennessee?

Tennessee is getting a lot of love because they have been pretty dominate the past couple of weeks. They are 7-1 in their last 8 with the only loss being a close game vs Florida in the SEC title game. Their 7 wins were complete blow outs too, 6 of them by 20+ pts.

They didn't lose to Florida in the SEC title game. Kentucky lost to Florida in the SEC title game. But I understand your point. I just think most of us, including me, fail to see why that makes them favored over Michigan by the media.

miss state - 14-19
vanderbilt - 15-16
Auburn - 14-16
Missouri - 23-12 but only 9-9 in conference play
south carolina - 14-20
Iowa - well established that Iowa had been struggling for a few weeks
UMass - It's Umass. Yes, they have a decent team, but they're nothing special.
Mercer - Yes, they beat Duke. Upsets like that happen. You really think they're a quality win?

I get that they blew some of these teams out, but they haven't beat anyone. Meanwhile, we just won our conference by 3 games, went to the tourney champ game where we met a buzz saw with a ton of motivation to not lose 3 games to us in one year, and we handled both of our tourney games with relative ease.

"(Stauskas is) just another player,” Richardson said. “I've been guarding guys like that for a while now. It's nothing new."

Oh snap

The entire SEC has four guys that shoot over 40% from three. None shoot as well as Stauskas. Seems like there are many Stauskas like players in the SEC.

Honestly, reading all the press clippings, media, message boards, not sure why Michigan is even going to show up on Friday, Tennessee is the second coming.

I wish Michigan could have beat Mercer and shown the world how good they really are.

I don't think Tennessee has any clue how good this offense is. They have played a lot of poor teams in this tournament (Iowa included), and are finally going to be going up against a team that knows how to play. Michigan by 15.

A really big key could be the fact that Tennessee's big men don't usually match up with a guy like GR3. If he is aggressive, he could get his man in foul trouble really early. That would be an enormous advantage for Michigan.

And when exactly has Michigan won by as many as 15 points against a team as good as Tennessee this season? The 14 point win over Texas is the closest.

I think Michigan will win but if you think it's going to be that easy you might be in for an uncomfortable evening.

I'd say the "the other team was more motivated than us" excuse is more lame than the "we had injuries" excuse.

It might be a lame excuse, but it's not as lame as Izzo whining and crying about injuries over and over in press conferences.

Its damn near impossible to beat a team (a good, rival) three times in a season. Period.

Rarely happens with Duke/NC when they meet in the ACC tourney ....FabFive got swept by Ohio as Frosh but then punked them in the NCAA tourney on way to Champ Game.

Besides, Monster's comment was in the context of comparison to Tennessee's run, not an indictment of State

Tennessee's run is a joke. If it wasn't for their cupcake schedule at the end of the season they would not have even sniffed the tournament.

Oh come on, "As good as Tennessee?" This mini-March run they are on does not mask the entire season of work. The entire season of work is a team that was constantly on the wrong side of the bubble, can't hit water if they fell off a boat, and has a decent record in an absolutely horrible conference. I've said it 90 times, I'll be thoroughly upset if they lose to Rocky Top, because they are not as talented, and not as tournament-tested.

9 point win over MSU? 10 point road win over OSU? 5 point road win over MSU? Beating Iowa at home by 8 when they were halfway decent? That doesn't compare to beating Tennessee by 15?

That was not to say that Tennessee is world beaters, but to mean that the only time UM has won games by as many as 15 points it was against teams that aren't as good as Tennessee. I know Florida tried twice and didn't win by double digits either time.

They beat a team many here say will be a "matchup nightmare" for MSU by 35 points. So there is evidence to suggest that they are capable.

Like I said. I think UM will win. Winning by 15 as you predict will take one of their better efforts, which is possible.

Wichita State is a small team like Michigan and they got Stokes to foul out in their match up. Let's do that.

Who knows, I just think Tennessee is getting way too much hype, whenever I have seen/listened to a breakdown of this matchup, the focus is on this surging Tennessee team, nothing about Michigan.
