Concern about Tennessee?

Wichita State is a small team like Michigan and they got Stokes to foul out in their match up. Let's do that.

Him vs GR III is a matchup advantage for UM on offense as GR III would be too quick for him. The question is would GR III take advantage of it?

His level of aggressiveness is always the question. He has been much better lately. He just has to keep it up.

That was not to say that Tennessee is world beaters, but to mean that the only time UM has won games by as many as 15 points it was against teams that aren't as good as Tennessee. I know Florida tried twice and didn't win by double digits either time.

They beat a team many here say will be a "matchup nightmare" for MSU by 35 points. So there is evidence to suggest that they are capable.

Like I said. I think UM will win. Winning by 15 as you predict will take one of their better efforts, which is possible.

Just to note, Florida curb stomped Tennessee 67-41 in their first match up.

The good news about this matchup is that Michigan can probably force a ton of fouls on Tennessee if they push it. Further, if they force Tennessee to the outside the Vols are a poor shooting team. They need to collapse down low.

The Vols lost to 18-16 Texas A&M twice this year... Maybe their worse losses?

opps vandy 15-16..

Our Worse loss was Charlotte who finished 17-14

Kenpom has Tennessee as the #6 team in the country, Michigan as #10. I know there are outliers in these rankings but the computers love them for some reason

Funny that he doesn't seem to trust his own rankings.

"I'm really looking forward to that game. Probably more than anyone on the planet. But I think the Vols are going to struggle unless their 3-point shooting improves quite a bit. This is assuming they don't grab 60% of their misses as they did against Mercer."

as much as you'd love for me to be hating on Michigan, I'm not, just explaining some of the UT love. I'd take Michigan in this one at -2 all day long

Right with you on that ML. I wish the game was tonight so I didn't have to wait another day.

I woke up and thought it was Friday. My first thoughts, "Take son to school. Pick him up. Come home by about 3:45 and start my pizza order for the game. Should get food by tip off at 4:15 or whatever time it is. Then I'll....oh shit. it's Thursday. Damn it."

crazy to see a team rank in the top 20 in offense and defense on kenpom but end up as an 11 seed

No idea what wacky statistics kenpom uses to calibrate offense, all I know is that they are 168th in points scored, 176th in assists, 150th in FG percentage, tied for 136th in FT percentage, and tied for 209th in 3-point percentage. That's not a top 20 offense, or even a top 100 offense.

Me too. usually I fly home on Thursdays and head in to the office on Friday -- been thinking it's Friday all day

I hate the one day off feeling. No matter what you do, it always seems to make the day feel like it is dragging.

Yahoo! "Bracketologist" Brad Evans was just on radio while driving little dude to school. Brad picked Tennessee and said he went 0-4 last night. ...

His reasoning for UT was ..

IF the UT big guys can control the paint and out-rebound Morgan
And IF the UT guards can disrupt Stauskus from outside,

Then UT has a really good shot at maybe winning.

He actually had three IFs and then a maybe but did pick TEN!

Lol

I know Stokes is really good, but I don't get why people keep saying he has such a size advantage on Morgan. Stokes is 6'8 260. Morgan might get outrebounded, but it shouldn't be as dramatic as people are saying. Then their 4...I forget his name. He's not nearly as big as the guy GR3 drew last week with Texas.

I am nervous for this game, but if we play our B+ game, we're going to win. I hope we come out with our A game, but I don't think Tennessee has all of these advantages that I keep hearing.

This game reminds me of the Kansas and Florida games in last year's tourny. Bad matchups, too small, won't be able to handle the defense, will get outrebounded, can't penetrate the lane......etc..etc...etc....e.tc....

It's not that Stokes has such a size advantage on Morgan, it's that he has a big size advantage on GR3. Stokes has 2 inches and 40 lbs on GR3. Stokes is their PF, while Jeronne Maymon is their center. Maymon is the same size as Stokes, 6'8 260. It's possible that Beilein will have Morgan guard Stokes and put GR3 on Maymon.

It'll be interesting to me how often we allow Stokes to post up against GR3 1v1. I'd expect us to double him pretty quickly, especially since Tennessee isn't a great 3 point shooting team. The other key matchup in my opinion is if Stauskas be a difference-maker on offense with Richardson guarding him. Richardson is 6'6 and is supposed to be a very good defender. If Stauskas can handle him, I have no doubt that we'll win.
