Yes or No?

I say Yes.

Bonus Question: What will his contract status be at the start of 2014?
5.5 million qualifying offer with Pistons
Max contract with Pistons
Max contract elsewhere in sign and trade
12M contract with Pistons
13M contract matched by Pistons
13M+ contract not matched by Pistons

I think 5.5M with Pistons. Things may be weird around the Palace with this situation.

12.5 4yrs.

I don't even think him not being on the Pistons next year is even a possibility. The whole organization wants him here.

What about whet he wants? He wonders why they don't give him max if they love him so much. Seems pretty clear they will max Drummond and look how much they gave Smith is probably in his head. Combine that with Detroit potentially not being where he wants to live another five years. It isn't for everyone.

12+ million > 5million

Just saying. Plus absolutely no one is even calling Monroe but the Pistons.

Do you think 12.5M for Four years is on the table right now? I do.

He wants max from Detroit or he wants to play elsewhere. I think there is some pride involved or dislike of the area. There was talk that he was wanting to go to New Orleans but with their trade for Omer Asik that doesn't seem as likely.

I think he's gone. It's way too quiet right now. Something tells me SVG is making phone calls left and right to get an S-T done. With Drummond and Smith, I don't think Monroe really fits the mold anymore.

I haven't heard a single rumor about a team wanting to sign Monroe. With all of the stupid contracts given to marginal players...I don't get it. Maybe the league doesn't think he is any good. Maybe they are right.

Monroe is silent because he is hoping a team comes in and offers more than the Pistons are.

Problem no team is bothering with Monroe, because its common knowledge the Pistons are bringing him back. There isn't a team out there with the cap space to offer a max deal anymore unless he is gonna go play for Philly or Phoenix. But, again all Monroe is doing is trying to garner more interests to drive his price tag up.

Problem is there isn't any takers. Also, remember that Drummond already stated that Monroe let him know he wants to come back.

He is just doing due diligence, Monroe is a smart man with an agent and they are just doing whats best from a dollar standpoint.

Why waste your time offering a contract when they know detroit will just match. It'd have to be outrageous for us not to match....and no one is going to offer monroe an outrageous amount of money.

Hughes, I'm not so sure about that. Some of the contracts that have been getting doled out are ridiculous. Hayward got the max?! Some team will fall in love with Monroe's game and offer him a lot more than he's worth. It happens a lot in today's NBA.

Only three teams can offer more than the Piston's current offer. FYI.

76ers, Suns, and barely the Hawks

76ers currently have the young duo of Embid and Noel at PF/C so they won't be signing Monroe.

Hawks also have a nice duo with Horford and Millsap and holes with the rest of their team.

Suns are realistically the only team that has the money and the need. And they can only offer around 14 million. Which will be instantly matched by the Pistons.

Good analysis. Follow-up question - would Monroe take a 14M per year contract from Detroit? I don't think he would.

I think Love needs to get moved to increase Monroe's value. He and his agent know it. Monroe (to me) is a nice fallback position for a contending team that can't figure out a way to get Kevin.

Monroe in Houston would make that squad better I think. Monroe could be the Rocket's Diaw and Howard can cover for him on defense.

Zoom, couldn't other teams shed contracts or get involved in sign and trades to make room for him?? That stuff happens a lot.

Portland had approached the Pistons about a sign and trade early on, but couldn't offer enough. They ended up signing Kaman instead. There IS interest, but the Pistons are rightfully asking for a king's ransom to let him go. Monroe is the only high value asset the Pistons have outside of Drummond. They want to keep him, and would only let him go if they were sure they got equal value.

Supposedly talks have restarted between the Pistons and Kings about sending Smith to Sacramento. If that ends up going through, Monroe is a lock to return.

On what kind of contract? He wants Max. Would you do it?

Of course he wants max, You think a young player is gonna ask for what he is worth? or less?

No, like ANY GOOD BUSINESS DECISION you ask for more.
