Dual Threat

I think it will like last year - Patterson starter and DMac takes 1/3 of snaps in more read-option sets. He’s faster than Shea but isn’t only a ‘runner’

I think we all envision McCaffrey getting some playing time this season. This isn't crazy. He got playing time last year before he got hurt. Why wouldn't he get some PT?

Well there's a big difference between just getting some mop-up playing time vs. playing in "perhaps every game". That's pretty significant if they plan on using a two QB rotation regularly for the offensive gameplan.

Not saying it's crazy either, as I am a big fan of McCaffrey's and want him to get as much playing time as possible. But it just opens the door to all the usual questions & second guessing with a two-QB approach.

I think I'll wait to see how this plays out before judging.

"redefining what a starter is" - Harbaugh

Seems like he plans on playing both a lot. Obviously things can change during the upcoming practices.
