I love Broke and Pony Excess, The 2 Escobars was excellent too. The Announcement, Catching Hell (Bartman), Guru of Go (LMU), Survive and Advance, they've all been great aside from the Fab Five one.

I really liked that Fab Five one, never new that Jalen Rose was such an ass

I really liked the fab five one too. They were a huge part of College Basketball. Both good and bad. That's as close to a Michigan fan as I ever was. Being a HS basketball player at that time they were like gods to most of us. If anything, as least we didn't have to wear those nut hugger shorts anymore.

I liked the Fab 5 episode, I just saw it a few days ago first time. Illinois was chanting "crack house" to Rose after the incident hahah. Funny to see how slim Webber was in HS, He had his eye on MSU also ( Being from Illinois I never knew that I suppose). Havent seen Pony Express or the U yet, putting those on my list.

If you ask jud and othersn weber wanted to go to msu until uncle ed showed up with his numbers money. Izzo was a primary recruiter and that's why he hates Michigan so much

There was another Bird/ Magic show equal to ESPN 30/30 (but another special). Wish I knew the series, in this situation Google hasnt given me an assist.

I got know the owner of Odie's Big Ten pretty well in college - bought over 100 kegs from him (before they were banned) my sophomore and junior year (webers jr & sr year in HS) - he knew Magic pretty well and talked to him about recruiting Webber. Magic recruited him hard and he was convinced he was going to State. Then boom, he went blue. If webber went to State there wouldn't even have been a fab 4 bc Rose would have gone to Syracuse.

I think he was going to ublv before the hot tub picture came out. One little twist alters the landscape

Following former teammate Anderson Hunt. Pretty sure after that, if Webber didn't choose michigan, he was going to Syracuse.

Quite a lot of revisionist history regarding Webber in this thread...

Eric Montross, McDonalds AA camps .... UD-Mercy, UNC

And it was more about Perry Watson coming on as an assistant that sealed the F5.

Of course this is all 20yr old news so nothing new and very well documented - there are entire books about it. Like gotime, I was in HS then too and when we played DCD the gym was SRO. Back then, EVERYBODY was a Webber fan - regardless of whether your dad flew an S or M flag on the garage.

Nothing revisionist about it - my comments are based on conversations I had with a friend of Magic's - it was no secret that Magic was helping to recruit Webber for years. And I said nothing negative about Webber - at the time I was a fan. Saw him play DSW at Cobo his senior year and I went to the Palace to see Rose & Vashaun Leonard play Katu Davis of Detroit Northern in the state finals - great game as I recall until the Prospectors pulled away at the end. Sure I was disappointed that he chose michigan, but whatever - it happens. It wasn't until years later that we learned what a doosh Webber was/is and how dirty the michigan program was at that time. And yes, UD-Mercy was in the mix but hardly worth mentioning as he really would have "shocked the world" if he became a Titan - it was just like Garnet said he was considering DePaul if he didn't go pro. And for the record, unlike a lot of folks here, I always liked Rose and gained more respect for him after watching the 30 for 30.

Jud wrote in detail about his perspective on the Webber recruiting as well.

Paraphrasing from memory:

Webber made it clear that he was GREEN. Meanwhile, Vashon Leonard was all GREEN as well.

Meanwhile, Clarence Underwood snapped photos of Webber in a Minnesota suite (a violation) at a football game while visiting Minnesota (they were playing MSU). He made the pics public (to rat out Minnesota) against Jud's expressed wishes, Webber and his family got heat from the NCAA and were pissed at Jud and MSU. Jud smoothed it over for the most part, but Mr. Webber remained perturbed.

Meanwhile, Webber decided that wherever he played, he wanted to play with Jalen Rose. Jud only had two scholarships to give that year. He was thinking Webber/Leonard. Thought Rose was UNLV bound.

On top of that, UofM was short one assistant that year but unofficially leveraging Perry Watson as a recruiter it seemed. Perry and Jalen started showing up at Webber's games and such. In the end, Perry reeled Jalen and Chris into UofM as he apparently knew his unofficial position was becoming official the next year.

Also in the end, as Jud went cool on Vashon Leonard (thinking Webber and Rose were needing to be a package deal to get them to MSU) he gave up on his dream of being a Spartan and ended up at Minnesota.
