ALLEN PARK, Mich. -- The Detroit Lions placed second-year tight end Joseph Fauria on season-ending injured reserve Wednesday due to an ankle injury.

Joseph Fauria may need surgery on his ailing ankle, Lions coach Jim Caldwell said.
Lions coach Jim Caldwell said he is uncertain whether Fauria will need surgery on the ankle.
"Obviously he's been out a while for us now back and forth," Caldwell said. "He's a guy that has height that you can't coach. His innate ability to go up and catch the ball around the end zone. Those are things that he does well but we have to go in and get the job done without him."
Detroit signed Kellen Davis to the 53-man roster to replace Fauria and added two players to the practice squad -- linebacker Jerrell Harris and wide receiver Skye Dawson, who played seven games with Tampa Bay last season.
Fauria missed over a month healing his ankle after an off-field injury sidelined him through the middle of the season. On Sunday, he hurt the ankle again, leading to his placement on IR.
In total, Fauria appeared in seven games this season, making six catches for 74 yards with one touchdown.
