The Big Ten Conference has four of the nine highest-paid college football coaches in the country, with Michigan State's Mark Dantonio leading the way at more than $5.6 million per year according to USA Today's college football coaching salaries database. Dantonio is the second-highest paid coach in the nation, behind Alabama's Nick Saban at more than $7.1 million.
Ohio State's Urban Meyer is second in the Big Ten and No. 6 nationally at approximately $4.5 million, followed by James Franklin (No. 8 overall) at $4.3 million and Kirk Ferentz (No. 9 overall) at $4.075 million.
After Ferentz, the next Big Ten coach in line is Bo Pelini, who makes about $1 million per season less than Ferentz at $3.077 million. Pelini is No. 24 overall.
