Do you still like the play calling after you looked at the film?

?Yeah. There?s not even a question about it.?

His pressers are always full of "coach speak". I don't care for him thinking the booing was directed at the players however. He says it should be directed at the coaches. Ummmmm......IT WAS!!!!

I know it was probably coach speak, but it would be nice to hear him acknowledge that something needs to change. That they need to put the players in a better position to succeed. His response just comes off as if they are not going to change anything.

I think it's unrealistic and unreasonable to expect a head coach like Brady Hoke to publicly throw an assistant under the bus like that.

We'd all like to hear him say he has a plan, this guy is going to be gone, we're going to go 12-0 next season and lead the nation in offense, but that's just not going to happen until the season is over, even if we lose each of our three remaining games.

And what good would it really do anyway? Hoke would look like an excuse maker, he'd lose respect among the coaching fraternity for dumping on his own guy like that, and it could only make it harder to recruit a good OC to Ann Arbor if he's worried Hoke is going to undermine him in public.

So what is it someone once said about situations like this? I think it went like this: "Accept this and move on."

He doesn't have to throw anyone under the bus to acknowledge a problem. I imagine he is handling it behind closed doors.

The best was when someone asked him about the Nebraska DE that said they knew every play our offense was going to run before we ran it and Hoke said, "he's wrong"......lol ok. The -20 rushing suggests otherwise.

The minus 20 is mainly due to devin getting stuck in figuring out what to do when his first pas target is covered

He has to be smarter and faster

Agreed. But its sometimes hard to make a decision when you have 1.7 seconds before 4 guys hit you. The line needs to give him time to make smarter and faster decisions.

Yes he needs protection But he had more time this week.
He didn't throw it away when he could have

You could not help but be fixated on the neg rushing yards on the huge trinitron at the BH. Could nt take eyes away from it. It was like watching a stock ticker. When DG gets sacked he dos not fuck around wit this -4 or -5 yard shit. He's a punter-from-line distance sack at minimum.

I just don't get it... I remember good Michigan defenses getting torched by the type of QB Devin is supposed to be... Throw Denard in for that matter. When plays break down they're supposed to be able to take off and pick up yardage. Jesus, at this point devin is no more elusive than John Navarre was... Denard couldn't scramble worth a damn either...

I was at the Michigan-Syracuse game in '98 when Donovan McNabb went off... I thought that's the kind of QB Denard and devin were going to be.... Boy was I wrong...

There are so many ways Hoke could approach that without throwing anyone under the bus. For example, he could say as little as you "always" look back critically with the benefit of hindsight and wish you could change a thing here or there. He's obviously protecting Borges, which is in some ways admirable, I'll give him that. But at some point that won't be good for him or, even, the team. And we might be reaching that point.

And I'm the last person who looks to scapegoat an offensive coordinator. It always seems like OC's are the first to get thrown under the bus by fans (from the Lions' Scott Loeffler last year, to Debord -- and even McGee to an extent -- to Borges now), but the lack of a short, quick passing game is so glaring it's sad. They need to coach Devin to get rid of that damn ball, and a huge part of that is the passing scheme we've designed given our limitations. I really feel for Devin, he's been completely rattled.

He doesn't need to throw anyone under the bus in public. He does need to acknowledge that there are serious problems with the O, especially when DG has to run for his life on most passing plays. It seems that the pocket is never established on most passing plays and DG winds up just running for his life back there. Hoke needs to lead the way in developing an O game plan to reduce the problems. There are talented guys on the O that can be utilized. Just try the quick screens and short passes. What could it hurt? The O is not moving the ball now and you can expect the remaining teams on the schedule to just blitz the crap out of the O. It shut down the O vs sparty and Nebraska. It worked great for them. Expect the remaining teams on the schedule to do the same until you show that you can overcome it and burn their D. Plan for it! What do you have to do to overcome a blitzing D? Because that is what is going to happen. Do you just stick with an O plan that failed miserably for the last two games? No, plan for blitzing Ds and figure out a plan to defeat it. Otherwise you are going to get your QB crushed in the remaining games and he will have no confidence for next year. Fitz is done, there is no hope for him, but plan and save your QB for next year.

Remove all the sacks and lost yards from Glasgow's snap and Michigan had 22 carries for 29 yards.

out of curiosity, what's the explanation on the headset thing? i follow michigan as a rival but i don't know that much about what hoke's explanation is. when the team goes 11-2, the headset isn't a big deal but if they're struggling like they are this year, you have to ask what the deal is?

it looks like he just sits there with his arms folded and pats his players on the back when they get off the field, it's honestly like he's a fan with the best seat in the house. i know that he does more than that but what gives? why isn't he listening to the play calls. i'm all for trusting your coordinators but you have to know what's going on. if it were MD i'd be pissed.

My best response is that he's like John Wooden with folded up program who has made his preparation and expects the team to execute what it worked on.

Those are two different sports, in basketball there's so much quick reaction that coaching has less of an impact, think of basketball with a 30 second timeout every change of possession, that's essentially what football coaching is.

i'd have to assume this infuriates Michigan fans.

Coaches are constantly micro-managing the play on the floor in a basketball game as it is transpiring, in ways that football coaches cannot do.

to a point, coaches call set plays out of timeouts which is what football coaches do on every play. the impact of coaching is greater in football than any other sport.

either way, i was trying to see if there was a good explanation for Brady not wearing a headset and it seems like there isn't.
