ESPN - Seifert: "It was worth noting, however, that coach Jim Schwartz suggested it was time for safety Amari Spievey to even out his game. It appears to be a now-or-never year for the 2009 third-round draft pick."

I believe everyone on here can agree with this. I like Schwartz's method, let the guy know this is his last chance and see what he does with it. If it works, great. If not, they'll part ways. Upfront and honest while willing to let the guy prove he belongs, gotta respect that.

That's part of the problem though, if he doesn't improve. Do they have $ to spend on a high quality S in FA? Probably not based on the cap juggling they are continually doing. So that means drafting one, which is no guarantee that they will be better than Spievey in his 4th year. So they might be stuck with him for 2 years until the new guy gets his NFL legs, regardless of this ultimatum by Schwartz. After all, the guys they've brought in so far haven't beaten him out yet, so he isn't the worst safety on the team.

They've looked at other safeties in free agency and it's up to Coleman to actually beat him out. Which based on who the coaching staff started, Spievey was the better safety last year with more potential.

Mayhew said he still isn't opposed to bringing in another vet safety if he feels he has to later this offseason (i.e. Spievey struggling in camp).
