Right-hander Jacob Turner has been designated for assignment by the Miami Marlins, who endured his struggles as a starter for the past two seasons.

Turner went 8-19 in 47 games with Miami, including 39 starts. This year he's 4-7 in 20 games with an ERA of 5.97.

Left-hander Bryan Flynn was recalled from Triple-A New Orleans on Tuesday and will likely move into the rotation until righty Henderson Alvarez recovers from shoulder inflammation that sent him to the disabled list.

Turner was considered a top prospect when Miami acquired him two years ago in the five-player trade that sent right-hander Anibal Sanchez to the Detroit Tigers.

He went from decent in '13 to DFA less than a year later. Bummer he ran out of options.

When is the last time the Tigers traded away a prospect and the prospect turned out to be a very good player?

Maybe not as the original role but Miller has done good lately.

Like most always say, a prospect is just that..a prospect.

So the real question is, when was the last player the Tigers drafted that turned out to be a decent player?

Really only Porcello, and he took quite a while to develop. Too early to say with Nick. Before that you have to go all the way back to JV/Granderson.

Avila mostly. Could definitely do more on offense, but gotta love that defense.

And that's the genius behind DD. Porcello/JV still with the team. Granderson led to Sherzer/A-Jax and inevitably into Price.

The vast majority of what he gives up from the farm system never turn into anything. It's not a coincidence. He and his scouts have a good eye post draft it seems. (Maybe work on those pre draft scouts?)

Brian Rogers, Humberto Sanchez, Jacob Turner (maybe he'll turn out?)...the list goes on. DD is a dirty thief and I'm amazed any GMs deal with him.

I was going to mention Avila with Porcello but figured I'd save myself the incoming hoard of mouthbreathers replying about how terrible he is and his batting average.

Glad you jumped on that grenade first.

You're not alone buddy.

Avila should be on the list...he is an every day player that was drafted by DD. He isn't good but he contributes.

DD is like that guy in your fantasy league that no one will trade with.

Source: #Marlins’ Turner claimed by NL team. Likely to be dealt. Off 40-man due to DFA; can’t be pulled back w/o going on irrevocable wvrs.

Well if you look at this statement more closely, then odds declare we are way-way overdue to see a couple traded prospects prosper. The only question is how long the wait will be...... right Willy Adames? The year 2017 seems so far away.
