Jake Peavy?

I know it's a stretch, but why not try for Jake Peavy+Crain. It would give us a legitimate starter, plus a lockdown reliever in Crain and also allow us to move Rick to the pen, unless he's involved in a deal.

Why overpay for Peavy when we are not in need of starting pitcher?

Exactly, only starting pitchers we should be after are ones like Lincecum who would go in the bullpen for long relief. No need to overpay for a hole that isn't there especially seeing how we need to improve shortstop now if Jhonny goes.
