Hanson joins exclusive company: For the second-straight week, Lions K Jason Hanson joined a group of one; last week, he became the first kicker to score 2,000 points with the same team, and in Week 16 against the Chargers, he became the first kicker to connect on 50 field goals of 50-or-more yards in a career. Hanson made a first quarter 50-yard field goal and then added five extra points as the Lions won 38-10.

This guy has been through a lot of stormy waters here in Detroit and has always carried himself with grace. I wish he got more love from the masses.

A kicker is only going to get so much love...especially when you have spent your entire career on a losing franchise. But I feel Hanson has gotten plenty of love from Detroit. My one, personal wish for him is that he gets to kick a game winning FG as time expires in a playoff game this year.

aim higher. he deserves to kick the GW FG in the Super Bowl. That would be fitting.

I just love his quote...

"Bears kicked a 54 yarder to beat us, and then there was 10 years of Oblivion, and here we are!"

Hanson is an institution in Detroit. His leg has been getting stronger the last half of the season, must be fully recovered from his injury. You'd like to keep him forever, he's still one of the top kickers in the league. He's still good for up to 50 yards, but wont be hitting too many of those 55 yard FGs anymore.

He could probably still be a top 10-15 kicker in the NFL 5 years from now, but it will come down to cash, he makes a lot for a kicker I am sure and we'll let him go for a cheaper replacement in the next couple years because we'll need the money for other guys. He deserves a Super Bowl kick.

I'd let Hanson kick a game winner from 55. He still has the leg.

HOF?

or you think he'll be excluded on the "lack of meaningful kicks" arguement?

again with this argument.....go look up how many KICKERS are in the HoF....true kickers...not guys like Blanda who played elsewhere.

call me when Morten Anderson gets in and we'll talk Hanson.

Jason Hanson is one of the best 3 or 4 kickers to ever play the game, he gets into the HOF in my opinion.

only 1 kicker in the HoF...so when the 2 or 3 others you got ahead of Hanson get in......there ya go.

Maybe we can slot him in at running back for the next couple of years to increase his chances for the Hall?

Hanson SHOULD get in the Hall easy... but Hanson WON'T get in the Hall at all, because kickers just aren't welcome without a paid ticket at Canton.

It was a radio interview I heard. Before the San Diego game. I almost spit coffee all over the dash.

I think Hanson most likely gets left out of the HOF because he didn't really have any *Adam Vinetieri* (sp) kicks. I think given the chance he probably comes through, but he gets penalized because he played for the Lions and never got a chance.

no...he gets overlooked because he is a kicker , the HoF simply doesn't vote in kickers.

I was in high school when Hanson became a Lion. I've seen every Lions game since then. Seriously, I can't think of any stand out kicks that come to mind. I know he's made a ton of FG's but I can't think of any that jump out at me. If I had to create a highlight reel for him I wouldn't even know where to begin or where to end it.

only 17 game winners in 20 years...somehow I thought that'd be a higher number.

but i guess when as a team you don't win a whole lot your kicker doesn't get the opportunities.

Vinetieri (sp) will get in the HOF imo

Is he a better kicker than Hanson? I dunno... maybe. Hard to say. He's made more memorable kicks than Hanson, but I think given the opportunity to make those, Hanson comes through. We'll obviously never know.

But yeah, I won't deny Hanson's talent... or his longevity. But dude's been basically a non-factor for his 20 year career as far as impacting the league is concerned.
