If you're SVG (or whomever he chooses to run personnel), of course you make an offer for Love. We would probably have a better chance using Monroe as the main piece than anything else. But that said, I don't see any reason why Love would resign with us. Even with the SVG factor, we haven't been good in over 5 years, and we probably aren't going to land a legitimate third of a big 3 with our pick this year. Maybe if we jump up, get Wiggins/Parker/Exum and they are tearing up the league by the deadline, we could have a chance. Otherwise, there's just no reason to think Love would even consider us long term.

It was interesting he mentioned the Warriors and Bulls, though. The Warriors are obvious because of their talent, Love is a much better version of David Lee and could boost the Warriors to the same level as OKC/San Antonio in the West. The Bulls are less so since Rose's injury is huge and he wasn't actually any good the last time he came back from injury. If he's healthy, Love and Rose make for a real contender. If he's not, the Bulls aren't really a better situation than the Wolves.

The interesting thing is tring to figure out what value either of those teams can send back. Barnes hasn't actually been any good, and Lee is still wildly overpaid. That's not exactly enticing. Also, the Warriors won't have max cap space unless they let Thompson walk (which they won't). The Bulls he could legitimately force himself to as they have max cap space, but again is highly questionable thanks to Rose's health. Would he force himself to a team that would have to give up Gibson and maybe Butler if Rose isn't playing like a top 5 player again?

We could take back more money into our cap space this summer. If we send out 10 million or more (likely), we could take back however much we send out plus 5 million. Alternately, Minnesota could take on about 21 million in salary by sending Love out. Minnesota taking on salary is unlikely, but might do so to get multiple valuable players or in order to get the players they want (Lee plus Thompson, for example).

Minnesota can get a better return for Love than anything we can offer... I'm not sure Monroe would be a good compliment to their roster, since they need what we need: shooters. Rubio , Dieng, and Brewer are jumper challenged, and outside of Love, the only guy on their roster who can shoot AND defend their position is Martin.

We have nothing of value to offer Minnesota, and our roster really wouldn't be a step up for Love anyway. The odds of Minnesota accepting a trade with us (stranger things have happened) AND Love signing long term are about the same as me getting struck by lightning... seven or eight times in the same day.

Hahahaha...to further pound the idea that the Pistons have no chance of landing Love...

29 trades for 29 teams for Love, here's Detroit's:

Pistons receive: Kevin Love
Wolves receive: Stan Van Gundy

I don't want your horrible Josh Smith contract and shot selection that makes most government agencies look like well-oiled machines. I don’t want an improbable sign-and-trade deal with Greg Monroe. I don’t want any of the young players. I don’t even want the pick. I want SVG in all of his coaching glory and I’m willing to relinquish this fake GM power to him when the trade is completed. I’m going full-on Veruca Salt on this one. I want Stan Van Gundy to coach the Wolves and I want it now!
