After competing his in-person visit with the Detroit Lions on Thursday, veteran defensive tackle D.J. Reader is the newest member of the den.
Numerous sources indicate the Lions have signed Reader, 29, to a two-year contract to come to Detroit. Terms are not fully disclosed, but initial reports indicate the deal could be worth as much as $27.5 million total.
Reader is joining the Lions after four seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals, and four before that with the Houston Texans. The 6-foot-3, 335-pound nose tackle has been one of the NFL’s better interior run defenders and pass rushing facilitators.
Reader played in 14 games in 2023 before suffering a torn quadriceps muscle. He logged 34 tackles, one sack and one pass deflection in Cincinnati last season.
