Lions and Tulloch Not Close

Profootballtalk.com reports that the Lions are "not close" to finalizing a deal with free agent MLB Stephen Tulloch.
The Lions' plan is to sign Tulloch long term and franchise tag Cliff Avril, but talks with Tulloch haven't reached a breakthrough point. Tulloch is a top-four free agent amongst a quietly rich inside linebacker market. The 27-year-old is expected to draw interest from the Eagles if he hits the free agent waters.

Tulloch is a necessity if we want to make a step into a top ten defense. We cant let him go he was the best LB we have had. This needs to get resolved imo.

Avril just needs the tag....they have until July 16th to long term him.

CJ needs to be done before FA starts though.

Our order of priority should be CJ, Tulloch, Backus, Avril, Wright. I really don't care much after the first two, but I think Backus would be harder to replace than Avril would with where we're drafting and the draft class I'm seeing.

Well, for all of us we hope Detroit continues to draft this high and eventually we'll need to draft a LT. Maybe not this year, I know nothing of the LT draft class but soon.

The select the best available is good for only so long. One of these days they gotta go need.

Agree 100%, Mitch. This is a better draft class for interior OL than LTs. That's a position that rarely hits FA if it's a good player too. We need to draft our next LT, but I don't think this is the year for it. It could be the year to draft Dom's and/or Peterman's replacement(s) though.

Probably Hilliard, but could be Fox. In other words, not good.

I have no issue in giving Fox and Hilliard another year or two to develop. I don't understand all the hate and desire to drop them when it is extremely rare to find a starting NFL LT in the draft. It can take a good 4 years for some of these guys to finally become starting material. If there is someone who can start at LT when the Lions pick, great...but I don't know that even guys picked in top 10 have that skill set in this year's class. They may be given the job, but that doesn't mean they will be good at it.

4 years seems like a long time to develop. I bet more fail in 4 years than ones who develop.

The Delaware News Journal reports free agent ILB Dan Connor is "on the Eagles' radar."
The word comes via "several league sources." The sources disagree on the extent of the Eagles' interest in Connor, but have each confirmed the Eagles approached the Panthers about acquiring Connor last August. Thrust into a significant role after Jon Beason tore his Achilles in Week 1, Connor made 75 tackles, and graded out well against the run in Pro Football Focus' rankings. He'd be a solid, low-cost addition for an Eagles' team that must shore up its linebacker corps and run defense.
