Lions restructure Tates deal

Adds 750 k to 2016, 2017 and 2018.

Without a Ngata deal, this would happen. Still good amount of cap space for 2016 and plenty of draft picks.

Right now we have 36 players signed for 2016 (3rd least amount signed in the league) and an estimated 24 million in cap space as of now based on an estimated 150M cap number.

Both our starting DTs will be free agents. Other then that no huge names. If either or both of those play well they could take a nice chunk of that cap space. That would not leave a whole lot of room for FA.

We are essentially rolling with this team in 2015 and 2016 as is. Tulloch is the most likely to be cut in a cap savings move in 2016. Other options are Pettigrew 2.5M savings.

Other than that you are looking at minimal savings and probably not even a savings since you will need someone to fill that empty spot.

24 million is alot of room even with 36 players only under contract. 9 picks are the draft so there is 5 million from the cap and puts us at 45. There will some future contracts too so that gets us to 51 easily (another 3 million).

16 million real room. Room for Ngata and Walker and a free agent or two.

Jason Jones, Ihedigbo. Man Raml, Waddle (restricted) and Tahir Whitehead shouldn't be too costly if we want to keep them. Or we move on with Van Noy in Whitehead's case or you draft a DE and SS to replace Jones and Ihedigbo if you don't want to re-sign them. We have Warford and Laken at guard over Man Ram. Man Ram could be cheap guard depth re-signed though.

Plus they can EXTEND Stafford and reduce his cap number from 22 to a lower number. Tulloch and Pettigrew need to prove things this year though as they would be the cap cuts.

Tulloch would save 6 million if cut. That is a huge chunk of change but may not be necessary.

Also a long term deal with Riley Reiff could reduce his scheduled 8 million cap number by a couple million.

You also start thinking about Slay and Warford new deals though too as they would have one year left. (2016)

We don't need to tweak this team that much either.
