Finally. Long run may work out great for detroit

Great signing

Lions can't lose on this one, even if Prater is absolutely trashed on gameday, he's still better than Freese/Henery combined.

This is going to be a huge boost, more so than people realize.

It's got to be demoralizing for the entire offense to know that when you march down field, you are coming away with no points unless you punch it in.

This is the kind of signing, assuming he makes his kicks, that gives the offense new life and a reason to make big plays, beyond the TDs.

just score a fucking touchdown please and leave the kicker to kicking extra points. 7 points vs a shitty team like buffalo isn't good...at all.

I know it wasn't pretty on Sunday, but there is something different about this year's team.

I have no idea why, but any other year, even 2011 when we made the playoffs, I kept waiting for the other shoe to drop. Every win felt lucky. Every loss felt deserved. It was fool's gold to me... same Lions team, just catching a few breaks.

Last year when we had the division wrapped up with Rodgers and Cutler out, all we had to do was win one lousy game... and I knew we wouldn't. I could feel the bottom falling out. It's that well deserved pessimism Lions fans feel every year.

Even LKP feels it, he just lies... a LOT.

But not this year. I feel like we have a division title, a playoff run, and maybe some hardware coming home before it's over.

I knew we'd lose when Henery missed that last field goal on Sunday, but something in me said "Well, they'll cut him, sign Prater, and these ugly losses will be wins going forward".

I actually told my wife that I felt down in my gut that if the Lions signed Prater, he would end up kicking the game winning field goal on SuperBowl Sunday.

Probably way too optimistic... but that's the feeling I get about this year's team. They will struggle at times. They will lose games. But I have this unexplained confidence that they will win the division this year, they will make some noise in the playoffs, and when it's over, we'll be proud to be Lions fans... maybe for the first time ever.

I'm not saying the will win it all, but I feel like they are good enough to win it all, and I feel like this is a team unlike any I have experienced before.

And I have no idea why. I'm not a Honolulu Blue Kool-Aid drinker. I'm normally very pessimistic about the Lions week in and week out. Just not this year.

it feels the same to me:

great game vs NYG to get my hopes up
suck ass vs Carolina
great game vs GB
play close to a shitty jets team that's getting slaughtered by everyone else
suck ass vs the bills

got bad news for you ink....we haven't even started the tough part of the schedule yet. All of these games are games we should at the least be playing well in....no consistency whatsoever completely reminds me of every single other year of being a Detroit lions fan.

And you certainly have every right to feel that way. More so than I do to feel the opposite.

But in both the Carolina and Buffalo losses, I feel like a kicker could have changed the momentum and outcome.

I just really feel like we were a kicker away from doing something special.

We have to be fortunAte we played a bit of an easy schedule early on..

I'm pretty sure the Koolaid Ink is drinking cause the Jonestown massacre.

Purplesaurus Rex was da bomb, but I have to admin, I was always an Oh-Yeah Orange man myself.

I like orange popcicles too.

Prater has been a model of consistency over his eight-year career, especially from long range. He owns the best field goal percentage from 50-plus yards (.778; 21-of-27) in league history among players who started their career after 1970 and have a minimum of 20 attempts

Highest 50-yard field goal percentage since 1970 (min. 20 attempts)made attempted percentage
Matt Prater DEN 21/27 77.8%
Robbie Gould CHI 16/21 76.2%
Tony Zendejas LA/HOU 17/23 73.9%
Jeff Wilkins STL/SF/PHI. 26/36 72.2%
Rob Bironas TEN 24/34 70.6%

Even better, he's converted 47-of-50 (.940) career field goals in the fourth quarter, and has connected on all four of his attempts in overtime.

You want to point out for me the "tough part" of the schedule for me, because I don't see one team that scares me. Atlanta - nope, Saints - no, Dolphins - lol, Tampa - nah , Cardinals and Patriots - mehhhhh maybe. Then it ends with the last 4 out of 5 NFC North games which is a bit scary, but ALL winnable games for sure. There's not one game from here on out that you can say is a guaranteed loss and if there was one, I would probably pick the Packers at home is a loss. That's it!!

If Prater does poorly, someone needs to have a chat with Jason Hanson and find out if he left some voodoo curse behind. It's the only explanation at this point.

The silver lining is this could be really good long term, that is unless Prater walks after one season.

we just lost to buf at home....every game on the schedule should be viewed harder than that:

finishing away at chi and gb
traveling across an ocean to play Julio jones with our horrid secondary
@pats
@ari
vs saints

theres much tougher games than home vs buf nyg gb and away jets and car.

The names sound pretty, but get real. The Pats, Falcons, Saints now Chicago have been atrocious. This schedule 2 months ago was terrifying, but now it doesn't look as scary. You have to admit that. Not saying that we're going to roll any of these teams, but the odds of winning have increased dramatically.
