Malik still solid to MSU

Yup. April 1st was the deadline, he had until midnight last night. A lot of people were reporting the deadline was midnight Monday, it wasn't. Either that or he signed the Big Ten tender.

Either way, Malik is a Spartan like he wanted.

I await acknowledgement from MSU before I truly consider it a done deal, but yeah. April 1 was the last day to send his LOI not March 31 as was widely reported.

Been confirmed by Wiltfong after he spoke with Malik.

This is good for Malik, it means he won't have to jump through an extra hoop, he was going to sign a Big Ten tender, but that might have meant he would miss the 1st summer session. This way he'll be on campus in June.

Outside of this drama, he's a 5 star DE who is coming to play on the best defense in the country for the best DC in the country and for a D line coach who just was named the best D line coach in the country. I really don't see how he can crack the lineup as a DE his freshman year, but maybe he plays inside. DE is incredibly stacked right now with Calhoun, Rush, Thomas, Cooper and others pretty much guaranteed to be in the rotation. DT is a little less stackes with Clemens, Knox, Heath, and Kittridge being the clear top 4, but it's open competition after that.

Apparently he signed a B1G tender on National Signing Day. So there was virtually zero chance he was going to go to another B1G school, he would have had to transfer and then sit out a year.

Man, that sleuth Sam Webb sure was on top of things saying that Malik was still strongly considering UM the last several weeks. Hoke is going to demote him from fluffer/recruiter to fluffer/doughnut gatherer.

he's perfect for them though, they have fanboys all throughout their program, from the AD to the head coach to reporters.

The recruiting saga of Malik McDowell is over.

The No. 5-rated defensive tackle in the Class of 2014 delivered a signed letter of intent Wednesday to Michigan State, the school to which he committed on signing day amid a flurry of confusion.

McDowell's mother, Joya Crowe, disagreed with her son's choice, igniting nearly two months of speculation and indecision as Michigan, Florida State and Ohio State remained as candidates to land the 6-foot-6, 290-pound defender out of Southfield, Mich.

McDowell announced Wednesday morning on Twitter that he faxed his paperwork to MSU on Tuesday night.

My LOI was sighed and faxed in at 11:12 last night I'm official a Spartan Dawg!!! #GoGreen #GoWhite

Michigan State coach Mark Dantonio followed by congratulating McDowell on Twitter.

Congrats to Malik McDowell and his family on his NLI to MSU. Big decision for family and all involved. #SpartansWill https://t.co/gg5iyCo6FZ

The addition of McDowell, rated as the No. 60 prospect overall, boosts a class that ranked 29th nationally and fourth in the Big Ten on signing day. He joins athlete Montae Nicholson of Monroeville, Pa., as Spartans signees among the ESPN 300.
