Mathis retires

Not that it's a surprise, I think we all knew this was coming, and it's not even a sad thing.

Great career, excellent longevity. Thanks for a few darned good years, and we wish you well. Enjoy the fishing.

Seems like the type of guy who could get into, and excell at, coaching. Good locker room guy....success as a player.....played different roles in his career.

I would not be surprised to see him coaching with the Lions very soon, even this coming year.

I hope he is too. It's nothing like a guy knowing their role and embracing other aspects of the game besides being a "look at me" guy. Seems like they make the better coaches after their playing days are over.
