RT @JasonLaCanfora Lions traded for CB Kevin Barnes Mon and may not be deal dealing. Teams say Detroit GM Martin Mayhew making calls looking for a RB

-----------------------------

Hmm..this is interesting. Id assume that this trade wouldn't be strictly for depth, and instead will be an upgrade at the RB position.

Maybe its Moreno from Den? I know the broncos are deep at RB and he was rumored to be on the bubble.

Just saw this actually - confirms what I was sort of thinking.

------------------------------

The Detroit Lions have somewhat of a chaotic situation at RB; Jahvid Best is out indefinitely with his concussion issues, Mikel Leshoure is suspended until Week 3 (and has yet to play a regular season snap at the NFL level), Kevin Smith struggles to avoid injuries and Keiland Williams -- while possessing some potential -- has never really been a reliable lead RB.
Despite the fact that there are some FA options available -- most notably Ryan Grant and Joseph Addai -- it appears that GM Martin Mayhew is going to attack this problem via trade. Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports reports that other teams have told him Mayhew has been working the phones looking to trade for an RB.
In this week of roster transitions, it would seem that there are many options available, but perhaps the most logical are Knowshon Moreno (on the bubble in Denver) and Chris Ivory (in a similar situation in New Orleans). Barring a deal for either of them, it's possible we'll see the Lions move in on one of the players released this Friday.

Benson signed with the Packers a few weeks ago

I was kidding.

When Slick calls me a pipe its like a hallmark card so i feel honored. Thanks Canuck or are you multi-country too like your friend?

Daniel Thomas? Rotoworld thinks its a possibility...

Tuesday night's episode of Hard Knocks revealed that Dolphins RB Daniel Thomas has been in coach Joe Philbin's doghouse of late.
After flashing questionable instincts and refusing to run with the power befitting a 230-pound back last season, Thomas has shown a lack of personal responsibility this summer. "I'm getting a little queasy about you," said Philbin. "You got to take responsibility for your own career, what you're doing and when you're doing it. I don't want to come talk to you again." To this point, Thomas looks like a second-round bust. As he's clearly not a favorite of the new coaching staff, perhaps the Lions will inquire into his availability.

Don't really like what I hear from that paragraph though...

He runs straight up and reminds me of leshoure.

I dont like the idea of a bigger back in our offense. A guy like Best atleast complimented the passing game which should be our main focus. Are they thinking a bigger back would grind out tough yards?....cause it hasnt hapened that way. With our crappy oline not being able to make holes the bigger backs just get happy feet in the backfield and get piled up. The quicker backs atleast are able to cut back and gain big chunks.

We need a speed back who can catch the ball. I really think Best is done and he should be.
