Men's B Ball ranked #1

I feel like we never hold on to that spot for long. Wouldn't doubt that Florida beats us this weekend.

If rather have a loss going into B1G play, 13-0 and #1 in the country going in the road at Iowa to open the conference schedule is not appetizing to me.

Did enough to hold off a Florida team that both Purdue and Miami handled by double digits. Good to still be undefeated. I have a sneaking suspicion we might be a tad overrated, however.

We looked like we were in a fog tonight. Terrible shooting and Florida beat us for a ton of loose balls. We're learning that being #1 means playing with a big target on your chest, Florida played harder than we did.

The effort on our end looked alright to me for the most part. The defense was good (and helped by the fact that I don't think Florida shoots very well). Florida defended well and exposed the weakness we have in that not a lot of guys can get their own shot.

This is a good team, certainly top 10 good, maybe top 5 good, but I don't think #1 good (and yes right now I would struggle to put anyone else in that spot). We have 2 good wins and 2 or 3 more decent wins but didn't really control the game in any of them. And we will see once they start playing some true road games how it goes too.

We shot 5-25 from 3, not going to win many games when we shoot like that.

Kansas, Louisville, and Providence are a better three wins by far than any other team in the country has.

This was 1 game where we didn't shoot well, we've played 7 teams that made the tourney last season and have an 8th coming up next weekend. We're 11-0 and have played the toughest schedule in the country.

Totally off night tonight and we relied on our defense to win it.

I have to agree with Johnny. We might not look like the Kentucky juggernaut of last year, but we absolutely look like the best team in college right now. Florida is an elite defensive team that did exactly what was expected of them - they defended the hell out of MSU. The team also missed a LOT of shots that they will normally make throughout the season.

No teams wins every game these days, so we have to figure out what to learn from each game. This game tells me that the team still has work to do offensively, but can definitely lock-down opponents like great Izzo teams do. When shots weren't falling, it would be easy for these kids to get down and discourage, to give up or force worse shots. But they didn't. They ramped up the effort defensively and kept to their gameplan on offense. It wasn't pretty, but playing smart ultimately won out when talent alone couldn't.

We are among the leaders in the country in rebound differential, assist %, and opponents FG%. That's what you want to see, we rebound, pass the bal well, and play tough defense, that's what will get you a #1 seed.

Izzo teams need some adversity though, I think we'll be better for it if we lose next week at Northeastern. We have a lot of improving to do. And I think we need to get the rotation more settled.

Wow, we're actually #1 in the country in assist %, #1 in the country in rebound margin, and #5 in the country in opponent FG%. All that with the #3 strength of schedule. Only Florida and Kansas has played tougher schedules and that's because they played us.
