he's won 19 of 34 weekends in NCAA tournament play, that's 56%. with 4 teams in each location you'd be breaking even at 25%. we've made the tourney 17 straight years so this number includes his worst teams over that time period and more often than not, we're the winner of the weekend.

How many times were they the highest seed in the "weekend"? I'm sure they were the highest seed in almost every first weekend and definitely the highest seed in every first round game they have played.

we were a 5 in 2005 (Final four), 2008 (sweet 16), and 2010 (final four).

part of the success is avoiding upsets, talk to syracuse, duke, WSU, and nova about that.

I agree and it's a good accomplishment. But I think based on their traditionally high seeding I would be that going into the "weekend tournaments" they were the highest seed for the weekend more often than not. I would guess that every single first weekend they played in under Izzo they were the highest seed. Just a guess though.

actually, in 8 of 17 opening weekends they weren't the highest seed

2002 10 seed, lost first round
2003 7 seed, elite 8
2004 7 seed, lost first round
2005 5 seed, final four
2006 6 seed, lost first round
2007 9 seed, round of 32
2008 5 seed, sweet 16 (lost to memphis vacated)
2010 5 seed, final four
2012 10 seed, lost first game

looks like it was a bad guess!
