MSU NBA Draft

Here he goes at 19 - he doesn't look too happy with it, downright disappointed I'd say.

Happy the Suns did not pick Harris, but I was pretty pissed we passed on Payne

Complete reach by OKC, sorry but I have never seen pro potential in McGary and certainly not with a 21st pick

I thought he showed potential late in his first year. He was a beast for the tourney run. I'd be nervous of that back though.

I think we were the only ones on this forum that thought that way...

I was the one preaching that Harris is not a lottery pick. Hardly a first round pick. I'm pretty sure he shot the 3 at about 30%...he's a good defender and an average scorer which is not what a lottery pick looks like.

Harris shot 40% from 3 as a freshman, 35% as a sophomore. He's a very good stand-still shooter. And as a two way player, that's huge. He's world ahead (defensively) of pure shooters like Stauskas and McDermott. And other elite defenders (Wiggins, Smart, Gordon) can't shoot. I think you are seriously underselling how valuable a player who can realistically do both things is.

The big question is can he do either at the nba level given how undersized he is. It's one thing to defend against B1G talent but can he defend elite talent night in and night out. I don't think the few of us doubters were discounting anything too much - we said he wasn't worthy of a lottery pick and clearly, the teams in the lottery agree. I don't really care because I hate nba basketball so I'll probably never see him play again. I'll have to rely on other posters to let me know down the road if I'm wrong.

I think Harris can defend the position in the NBA. It's easier if you're 6-7 with long arms, but Joe Dumars was 6-3 and did pretty well on that end of the floor. So it can be done. I was surprised myself when people were projecting him to maybe land in the top ten during the season. He's a player who does a lot of things well, but nothing great and will be a solid pro. He's a better shooter than his percentages indicated this year. But for the NBA guys once they get past the first few guys who are potentially franchise players, it helps to have at least one thing that you can do great.

I said Payne should and would go ahead of him on several occasions.

I thought payne should have been a lottery pick but of course i'm biased. he just needs to work on speeding up the release on his shot, it's painfully slow

Gary Harris looking good today. Nik looked good last night and McGary looked good in his games. Good SL for state of Michigan so far.
