When the Lions claimed Bill Nagy off waivers from the Dallas Cowboys last year, they thought they might have their center of the future.
But Nagy never got healthy after undergoing August ankle surgery, and the Lions waived him to little fanfare when players reported for training camp today.
Nagy made four starts as a rookie for the Cowboys in 2011 and sat out all of last season.
He participated sparingly in workouts this spring with the Lions, hobbling most of the way.
With Nagy gone, Rodney Austin, Dylan Gandy, Leroy Harris and Jake Scott will compete for two or three backup jobs on the interior line. Center Dominic Raiola and guards Rob Sims and Larry Warford are the projected starters.
