Let's say that he builds a solid program at Pitt, which I think is very possible. There are solid recruits in the area and Pitt plays in a pretty weak conference. But hypothetically if Narduzzi 5 years from now has them at 10 wins and Dantonio retires, does he leave Pitt to come to MSU? Or do you guys think that Dantonio would promote a guy like Barnett to Head Coach when he leaves? I'm sure Dantonio will get a big say in who replaces him.

Or do you think coaches from outside would be attracted to East Lansing and we could grab a big name?

"Im going be here for a long time"

I hope hes here longer than 5.

Hard to say - a lot depends on what happens b/w now and MD's retirement. I think Narduzzi would always consider the job, but if it turns out he's an amazing head coach, we could get outbid by any number of schools. Also, as much as people love to bag on Michigan, the MSU job will never be viewed as higher than third best in the B1G. Before anyone jumps down my back about that statement, remember a couple of years ago ESPN college hoops guys put the MSU hoops HC job at 4th best in the B1G - that was not an assessment of Izzo's performance, it was a ranking of the desirability of his job. Whether you agree or not, that's the perception. It's no different in football, except there, the IU job would never be ranked ahead of ours.

I'm kind of torn - i don't like the idea of hiring a big name celebrity coach if we can even get one but I also don't like the idea of making a series of bad decisions again (Bobby Williams, JLS).

There's a pretty good chance Izzo and Dantonio are on similar timelines - we could be looking at some big transitions on the intermediate future.

That's the scary part. The two have a very good relationship which helps in recruiting and other things. As long as Hollis is at MSU I think the right hires will be made.
I however disagree with the notion that MSU basketball is not one of the more desired places to coach. I think recruits hold MSUs program at a much higher level than most programs in the big ten. A lot of these kids that are being recruited now have watched Izzo their whole life and more times than not Izzo has done a hell of a job in the tournament. They haven't seen Bob Knights Indiana team, all they've seen is the mess that they've been for years now.

I don't necessarily disagree re: the MSU bb HC position but you have to look at it independent of the job Izzo has done. They also ranked the HC job at MSU less desirable than the HC job at OSU - they have nowhere near the tradition that Indiana has or the success that we have had. And it's not unique to MSU - look at Florida for example. Donovan won 2 titles there and lost another in the finals but I doubt anyone would consider the Florida job to be one of the most desirable.

And there are definitely mixed signals - ESPN also ranked MSU one of the 3 best hoops programs of all time not too long ago. But while I don't necessarily agree that it's the 4th best job in the B1G either, at the end of the day it doesn't really matter what we think - we're not candidates for the job.
