Police investigating recent Jameson Williams traffic incident and avoidance of arrest

A recent traffic stop involving Lions wide receiver Jameson Williams is currently under investigation by the Detroit Police Department. According to WXYZ-7 in Detroit, the police are investigating why Williams was not booked and arrested for a firearms possession violation during the traffic stop, which occurred on October 8th.

Williams was a passenger in a car driven by his brother that was pulled over in Detroit. Willaims’ brother stated to the police on the scene that there were two firearms in the vehicle. The gun under the wideout’s seat was registered to him, but he lacked the CPL, which is a violation that is supposed to result in an arrest.

However, the officer on the scene did not arrest Williams. Bodycam footage indicates Williams informed the officer several times that he was a player for the Detroit Lions. The bodycam video is available on WXYZ’s page.

Williams’ attorney, Todd Flood, released a statement, (via Anthony Bellino on X,)

Williams is currently serving a two-game suspension for a violation of the NFL’s performance-enhancing substance rule. The police incident occurred as the Lions came out of their Week 5 bye.
