There will not be a dry eye in the house. Unfortunately, the cancer is back and Lacy is not responding to the therapy as well as before. Chemo wasn't working so they have her on advanced radiation, she's right in the middle of a 10 day session, but she'll be there to walk with her best friend Adriean Payne tonight onto the court for senior day.

Going to be a special night.

This is a full box of kleenex moment in the works.

Life can be very fragile. If you have kids, hug them. If your parents are still around, give them a call and tell them you love them.

this is going to be a tough one, poor girl.

i've been trying to find a way to donate online for that bww fundraiser they're having.

This is what I love about sports. When athletes reach out and connect with people, especially sick and/or needy kids without calling attention to themselves, it really makes you appreciate the game even more. I despise payne on the court, but he seems like a pretty good guy. Hope Lacy can pull through.

Totally agree.

I am also aware of a 12 year old boy recently diagnosed with Leukemia who has a relationship with UM football player Wyatt Shallman that dates back a few years through Wyatt's high school days.

When the boy lost his hair during recent chemo treatments, Wyatt shaved his head too in the spirit of helping the boy feel he was not alone in this fight. He also brought him an autographed football helmet.

Thanks for posting. That's awesome. I hadn't heard the story.

Payne's journey is such a remarkable story. To overcome having your mother die in your arms, and the learning disabilities that made it so hard to even make it out of grade school to graduating from Michigan State, with a future in the NBA, and now able to give back to others is quite a story. Should be at least a movie of the week on A&E someday. Adriean has been through a lot.

It's good to see that some athletes realize how much joy they can bring to someones life who doesn't have a lot to smile about anymore. I applaud all the athletes that take the time to build relationships with these kids.
Lacy seems like a very positive and strong girl, hopefully she can pull through.

I might add, the little boy with leukemia is the ball boy for Catholic Central's football team. That's how Wyatt and he developed a relationship.

You'll notice the youngster is holding up three fingers on both hands in one of the pictures. That is representative of "33". Number 33 for Catholic Central's team was David Widzinski who passed away in his sleep days after Catholc Central's loss in the finals to Cass Tech in 2012.

Wyatt and the youngster were both close with David. Wyatt has a tattoo on his chest dedicated to the memory of David. The 2013 Catholic Central season was dedicated to David's memory. It was "All in for 33".

Immediately after that loss to Cass Tech in the finals, David promised his teammates in the locker room that Catholic Central would indeed defeat Cass Tech before David (then a sophomore) graduated. It was an emotional day for the youngster when Catholic Central did indeed defeat Cass Tech this past year in the semi-finals. Hence solidifying the bond between the youngster and Wyatt and several other CC kids.

Days after that big win, the youngster was diagnosed. He's been through a lot. Seen a friend and hero die, and faced his own mortality ad he battles leukemia.

God bless Wyatt for being his friend.

He's an inspiration to a lot of people. Great basketball player, and apparently an even better person.

just watched the video, AP carried her out and she got a nice round of applause. I could only imagine what she and the parents are going through

Thanks Monster, youre a good poster. Regardless of affiliation these situations call for good people. If you didnt read Sbees link about Payne here, read it. Good read...
