With how well QBs have been doing this year, I went ahead and looked at projected numbers this year vs. last year. Here are my findings.

Last year there were five players with over 4000 yard passing. This list included Phillip Rivers, Peyton Manning, Drew Brees, Matt Schaub and Eli Manning. This year there are 14 on pace to throw 4000 yards, with FIVE of them on pace to break Dan Marino's record of 5,084 yards passing.

What I also found interesting was that even though yards are up, QB ratings in general (besides the top 6) are much lower than last year. Last year there were 13 players over 90.0 passer rating, and 23 over 80.0 passer rating. This year there are 10 players over 90.0 passer rating, and 19 over 80.0.

Do you think these numbers get more balanced after this year or does the league evolve into a down field passing game?

That's why I've been valuing red zone throws and touchdowns more than ever this year. Offenses are set up to be able to move between the 20s and rack up passing yards. Which I think is the difference between a stat QB and a good QB. The guy who can make the throws into the small windows in the red zone is the difference maker.

That is one thing I should have included, Qb projected TDs are not that much different than last year (ill add it in a little).

Defenses catching up maybe for lack of ota's? I suspect it will come back in line with most years.

Thats exactly what im thinking, but then I look at how offenses have changed over the last few years. Maybe teams are just taking advantage of bad defenses and taking more chances

Teams also don't seem to use the run as much anymore. There are very few workhorse backs. Most teams use several backs. It seems like quick passes to wide receivers and wide receiver/TE screens are used a lot more to replace some of those traditional runs. I could be wrong though.
