Some random splits:

Last 3 years percent facing a left-handed pitcher:

MIN 31.6%
TBR 31.2%
NYY 31.0%
BOS 30.8%
LAA 30.1%
BAL 29.6%
SEA 29.6%

AL AVG 28.8%

CLE 28.3%
OAK 28.3%
KCR 28.1%
TEX 27.5%
DET 27.2%
CHW 25.4%
TOR 24.5%

This means DET faces the 3rd most amount of right-handed pitchers.

DET is 6th (8th in HR/PA) in the AL over the last 3 years versus right-handed pitchers; only slightly above average. They are 3rd (6th in HR/PA) against left-handed pitchers.

I don't need to look at the numbers, nice as they are :) to realize the Tigers could use a LH power hitter.

Neither did Sparky. When he visited in 2000, he mentioned the Tigers needed one....still waiting!

Oh its been awhile. Pena could have been one but he had long stretches of nothing at the plate.

Last 3 years versus RHP

Cabrera 134.99 RC/650 1.010 OPS

Avila 97.75 RC/650 .832 OPS

V. Martinez 95.12 RC/650 .814 OPS

Jackson 84.70 RC/650 .738 OPS

Boesch 81.66 RC/650 .740 OPS

DET AVG 81.23 RC/650 .750 OPS

Guillen 80.39 RC/650 .766 OPS

AL AVG 80.21 RC/650 .744 OPS

Raburn 78.55 RC/650 .734 OPS

Peralta 77.52 RC/650 .738 OPS

Ordonez 72.10 RC/650 .709 OPS

D. Young 69.02 RC/650 .718 OPS

D. Kelly 68.58 RC/650 .683 OPS

Santiago 67.04 RC/650 .670 OPS

Inge 59.28 RC/650 .638 OPS

Laird 52.86 RC/650 .600 OPS

We are going to platoon Santiago (.670 OPS) with Raburn (.734 OPS) against RHP. Then, Kelly (.683 OPS) over Inge (.638).

Last 3 years

DET 2B = 76.60 RC/650 .727 OPS
MLB AVG 2B = 77.50 RC/650 .727 OPS

DET 3B = 66.20 RC/650 .683 OPS
MLB AVG 3B = 77.23 RC/650 .735 OPS

DET has actually been pretty close to MLB average at 2B over the last 3 years. A Raburn/Santiago platoon will probably still provide about average offense, maybe a little more.

DET (i.e. Inge) has been brutal at 3B over the last 3 years. Platooning with Kelly will not provide any change in this.

Inge 87.02 RC/650 .805 OPS

DET AVG 85.02 RC/650 .776 OPS

Avila 80.02 RC/650 .753 OPS

Santiago 79.15 RC/650 .754 OPS

AL AVG 78.40 RC/650 .740 OPS

Peralta 75.54 RC/650 .732 OPS

Jackson 65.93 RC/650 .669 OPS

Laird 58.03 RC/650 .634 OPS

Guillen 51.25 RC/650 .622 OPS

Kelly 31.24 RC/650 .430 OPS

A couple of notes. Boesch, as a LH, should hit RHP better than LHP, but this isn't true. He actually hit LHP better. So too, Jackson as a RH, should hit LHP better. And again, he actually hits RHP better.

Now, Inge probably has the biggest difference versus LHP and RHP. Inge had 4 multi-hit games after he returned from AAA, all 4 games were against LH starters.
