The Lions have serious interest in free-agent cornerback Brandon Flowers, according to CBS Sports.
The Kansas City Chiefs released Flowers last Friday. He was a second-round pick of the Chiefs in 2008.
The 5-foot-9 cornerback was due $5.25 million in salary and a $2 million bonus in training camp. Although he made the Pro Bowl last season, Flowers played in the slot more than ever before in his career under the Chiefs' new coaching staff, which also helped explain his release.
Flowers had 65 tackles, an interception and nine passes defensed in 13 games for the Chiefs last season.
Looking into Flowers makes sense for the Lions, who released veteran Chris Houston on Friday.
Currently, the Lions will count on Darius Slay and Rashean Mathis as the top corners. Slay is entering his second season and struggled as a rookie, and Mathis turns 34 in August.
If the 28-year-old Flowers comes at the right price, it could be a good move for the Lions, but other teams are reportedly interested in him, too.
