23. Lions -- Stanford offensive tackle Jonathan Martin

The Lions plan to re-sign free agent left tackle Jeff Backus, but he's not long for the league going on age 35 and returning from a biceps tear. Contract-year right tackle Gosder Cherilus is coming off another poor season. Martin could give Cherilus a run for his money in training camp while being groomed as Backus' long-term replacement. Boston College's Luke Kuechly could be an enticing alternative should the Lions fail to retain free agent middle linebacker Stephen Tulloch.

WTF No way he's there at 23, and no way he isn't BPA if he IS there, so no way the Lions pass on him if he lasts that long IMO.

But anyways, can Martin play RT? Because he'd probably have to play on that side if he gets any PT as a rookie.

wow. i wouldn't expect him to fall that far.

Also, the TE from Stanford is not falling out of round 1.

And Blackmon falling all the way to Seattle? You're not gonna convince me that, all this time, teams never knew he didn't have elite size. If the Jaguars passed on him for Melvin Ingram...LOL

Walter has Martin at #11...they updated today also.

Detroit Lions: Mark Barron, SS, Alabama
There are no cornerbacks available worth taking, but the Lions can still upgrade their secondary by selecting Mark Barron. He's the top prospect on the board, so he fits with their draft philosophy. Besides, Amari Spievey was brutal all year, and he saved his worst performance for the postseason loss at New Orleans.

And he'll be there too. I'm starting to warm up to this guy.

I think i'm liking that other safety (Smith) from Notre Dame too though.....uhoh.

He's white though... Modern day history is against him.

As for current white safeties, Weddle and Leonard aren't terrible.

Is harrison Smith still considered a 2nd round pick? I know he had a nice combine, but was it enough to take him in the first round?

Safeties in general rarely make it to the first round unless they are a sure fire prospect.

yeah, i know. That's why I was asking. Really haven't been looking at too many mocks post-combine yet to see where people are putting him.
