Run Differential

As of today there are only 4 teams in the AL with a + run differential. The AL east has nobody with a positive run differential. NYY in first with a -16 and Toronto in last with a 0. The AL Central is the only division where the standings are exactly in line with the run differential. There are 9 teams in the NL with a positive run differential. Miami has the best in the NL east with a +24 but they are in last place in that division.

Probably the result of winning a lot of close games, and losing blowouts, or vice versa.

Exactly. Prior to last weekend's series in KC, the Tigers were just a few runs positive. Then they feasted on the Royals, outscoring them 26-8 in three games.
