A source with knowledge of the situation tells Profootballtalk.com the league and NFLPA are "scrambling" to increase the 2012 salary cap.
Provisions in the new CBA have apparently left teams with less cap space than they were anticipating. As a result, the NFLPA has reportedly been trying to "re-do the numbers." The league has apparently shown a "certain amount of willingness" to cooperate with the effort because it "doesn

Little late for this for all the teams that started clearing cap space. Im sure heinz ward would have liked this to happen sooner lol.

Could be good news for us though....if it allows us to throw a couple more mil at tulloch im down.

Doesn't affect Ward. The Steelers aren't even willing to bring him back at min salary. He's unplayable at this point, and a waste of a roster spot.

It would definitely help them keep Mike Wallace though

Ya, but the steelers cleared like 30 mil in cap space was my point. it definitely effects decisions.

True, but honestly, it probably just saves them from clearing even MORE space. They're only $11 million under now if the cap remains the same as last year. Considering the cost of filling out the roster and signing draft picks, they probably don't have enough space now to match a contract offer for Wallace.

I'm expecting this to add around $5-6 million. I doubt we'll see anything drastic. There's only so much you can do when re-working the numbers.

Some teams will be pissed off that it happens now, if it does, rather than 2 months ago.

Pretty sure that I remember reading last year before this season that they were expecting to see the cap jump to around 125 million for this season. I was pretty surprised that I did not see the cap go up at all this year.

I'm sure he'll ketchup with another team soon
