Sean Payton may be done with NO

Hell yes. Already Dolphins rumours out there though.

No way, he would get to work with Matt Staff. How can any coach turn that down.

I am going to say no, I wouldn't want him here.

His offense is done, and he hasn't adapted any better than Caldwell has. I think his time as an elite coach is over.

Now, to clarify, I sure as hell wouldn't cry if he was hired. No fits. No screaming. I don't think he's a bad coach. I just don't think we would see the results people expect associated with that name.

I think there are better candidates out there in all honesty.

He's done, that ship has been sinking so bad in New Orleans.

He is probably considered a Top 10 coach based off his name

I would expect Top 15-20 coach results.

Ink, what better candidates are there out there? And you can't say any of those classic retread names like Dungy, Gruden, etc...

The guy has an 84-52 record, won a SB, and seems to get a ton out of his offense in particular. I would like him here.

He's still relatively young and a change of scenery would probably do him good.

Bud, I'm not going to sit here and pretend I'm some super smart NFL exec who knows every coach out there and who's a shit hot up and coming name and who isn't.

But one name I keep hearing, and a name I am impressed with, is Sean McDermott, the D-Coordinator in Carolina. He's young, he's got interesting schemes, and he's got a pedigree.

I think he's a great starting point. We don't need name recognition, which seems to be all a re-tread like Payton offers us. We need a good young coach able to adapt to the modern NFL and not be predictable.

And more than anything else, we need a defensive minded guy that can rebuild this defense into something.

He's the Matt Stafford of coaches?

I know most of you haven't watched many NO games and based on their record you'd be right to think that their offense is done. But they have completely revamped the playbook there. Hell Brees threw for 555 and 7 TDs last week.

Don't kid yourself that is Ron Rivera's defense. The same one he's been having success wi for years. And if you hate on Austin for doing it with great players he's got about 4-5 prow bowlers and 2-3 all pros.

Oh, I know it's Rivera's offense. And he learned a lot of it from Ted Cottrell. And McDermott will have learned it from Rivera who was a D-Coordinator before he became a head coach.

And that's exactly what I like about it. And that's why I am not on board with drafting a QB this year. Rebuild that defense.

Coming off of a 7 TD week, Brees already has two more today, so I could be wrong about Sean Payton's ability to adjust... but I just don't feel confident in him at this point.

Perhaps by the end of the season I will feel differently.

I don't think he's too bad but I don't want a guy who is going to be Matt's savior. We've had that already. Matt is no Drew,

If NO can change your mind by the end of the season Ink, he probably won't be available.

With a guy like Payton, there will be no shortage of opportunities. He's going to have a few teams to pick from, and he will pick the one that gives him the best chance to win.

Right now, there is no team he would like (probably) more than Detroit. He's got a QB I am sure he feels he will turn around, two all-pro wide receivers, a young offensive line, a young talented TE (laugh all you want, but it's true) and a young running game to work with.

And it's a team with low expectations, so he can step in and be the hero of the day.

If Detroit wants Payton, and he's not afraid of snow (sounds bizarre but it's a real thing) he would take Detroit over any of the other teams looking for a coach out there.

If Payton can get a top DC, ok...but I don't want shootouts any more than I want defensive struggles. Give me the OC and DC plus talent to win by 2+ TDs more frequently than nail biters.

Same holds with Harbaugh or anyone else. Make Detroit into the Pats with great Coords and talent with a coach willing to win by large margins instead of trying to Prevent Victory.

The one thing I want most from a new HC is a network. That's what has made the great coaches great.. guys like Belichick have a pipeline of coaches because they have a huge network of people they know and lean on.

It's what makes great CEO's what they are too.

We need a coach that will develop great coordinators, and when they leave to become head coaches, our guy has the next man in the pipeline ready to step in.

I personally do not want to see an up and comer try and find his feet with this franchise. Give me a guy who has had some modicum of success and is still relatively young. Payton looks to fit that mold.

Atleast their would be familiarity with the system. You know...since Lombardi ripped off someone elses playbook cause he didn't have his own.
